The vanishing of insects around the globe is causing scientists to issue and “ecological armageddon” warning. The abundance of insects has plunged by three quarters and scientists feel now is the time to sound the alarm.
Three-quarters of flying insects in nature reserves across Germany have vanished in 25 years, with serious implications for all life on Earth, scientists say. According to The Guardian, insects are an integral part of life on Earth as both pollinators and prey for other wildlife. It was known that some species, such as butterflies, were declining. But the newly revealed scale of the losses to all insects has prompted warnings that the world is “on course for ecological Armageddon”, with profound impacts on human society.
“The fact that the number of flying insects is decreasing at such a high rate in such a large area is an alarming discovery,” said Hans de Kroon, at Radboud University in the Netherlands and who led the new research which discovered the plummeting insect population. The research, published in the journal Plos One, is based on the work of dozens of amateur entomologists across Germany who began using strictly standardized ways of collecting insects in 1989.
Special tents called malaise traps were used to capture more than 1,500 samples of all flying insects at 63 different nature reserves. When the total weight of the insects in each sample was measured a startling decline was revealed. The annual average fell by 76% over the 27 year period, but the fall was even higher (82%) in the summer when insect numbers reach their peak. The fact that the samples for this study were taken in protected areas makes the scientists even more concerned, said Caspar Hallmann at Radboud University, who is also a part of the research team. “All these areas are protected and most of them are well-managed nature reserves. Yet, this dramatic decline has occurred,” Hallmann said.
“Insects make up about two-thirds of all life on Earth [but] there has been some kind of horrific decline,” said Professor Dave Goulson of Sussex University, UK, and part of the team behind the new study. “We appear to be making vast tracts of land inhospitable to most forms of life and are currently on course for ecological Armageddon. If we lose the insects then everything is going to collapse.” Goulson said a likely explanation could be that the flying insects can’t survive once they leave the nature reserves. “Farmland has very little to offer for any wild creature,” he said. “But exactly what is causing their death is open to debate. It could be simply that there is no food for them or it could be, more specifically, exposure to chemical pesticides, or a combination of the two.”
But still, other amateur entomologists also collected detailed weather measurements and recorded changes to the landscape or plant species in the reserves. But they still cannot explain the loss of insects. “The weather might explain many of the fluctuations within the season and between the years, but it doesn’t explain the rapid downward trend,” said Martin Sorg from the Krefeld Entomological Society in Germany, who led the amateur entomologists.
Until scientists figure out the reason that the flying insect population has dropped, they suggest cutting back on things we know are damaging. “We need to do less of the things that we know have a negative impact, such as the use of pesticides and the disappearance of farmland borders full of flowers,” said De Kroon.

The number of bats has also seen drastic declines in the U.S. and Canada.
Bats eat MASSIVE amounts of mosquitos and other insects. In recent years, the bat populations in the U.S. have been decimated by white-nose syndrome.
According to Kentucky wildlife officials, bat population declines across the state have been 80 percent for the tricolored, and up to 98 percent for the little brown bats.
Wildlife officials continue to monitor this, but currently do not have a treatment.
White-nose syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease that affects hibernating bats, has been confirmed in Nebraska – 3/17/17
“Nebraska is the 30th state to confirm the presence of white-nose syndrome, which has killed more than 6 million bats since 2006. Additionally, the disease has been confirmed in five Canadian provinces.”
“White-nose syndrome affects bats during hibernation, causing the animals to awaken more often and use up fat reserves they need to survive through winter.
They may also emerge from hibernation too early and starve or freeze to death. Mortality rates for little brown and northern long-eared bats have exceeded 95 percent in some states.
Bats are crucial to a healthy ecosystem. They eat insects that can damage agricultural crops, saving U.S. farmers at least $3 billion annually in pest-control services.”

White nose syndrome…. then there is the leftist “brown nose system” that is destroying the rest of America, not just its bats. Altho I will admit, the left IS rather batty much of the time

UN says plague cases in Madagascar almost DOUBLED in 5 days
UNITED NATIONS – “The number of plague cases in Madagascar has almost doubled over the last five days and medical experts project the situation will worsen, with 1,000 cases expected every month if funds aren’t rapidly provided, the United Nations said Thursday.”
“Dujarric said U.N. humanitarian officials in the Indian Ocean island nation reported 1,032 cases as of Wednesday, 67 percent of which were pneumonic plague. He says that “is more serious than the bubonic plague and highly challenging to control.”
So far, he said, 89 deaths have been counted, including 13 on Tuesday.”
“Dujarric said U.N. officials have strengthened systems to identify contacts of victims, monitor the number of patients at hospitals, transport medical samples, and address “the transmission risks of traditional burial practices.”
“Most of the cases in the current outbreak are pneumonic plague, a more virulent form that spreads through coughing, sneezing or spitting and is almost always fatal if untreated. In some cases, it can kill within 24 hours.”

No more mosquito’s? I’m all over it!
I read on the geoengineeringwatch.org site that the ozone layer is in a bad state and more UV rays are hitting the earth. So i wonder if the insects are dying due to too much radiation from the sun? I live in the country in NY state. Every summer we have yellow jacket bees., and i’ve gotten stung a lot, but the last 2 yrs i have only seen like maybe a couple. I don’t even see their bee hives anymore. They would build them under my swimming pool eves. Nothing., oh, and i have not seen any toads in 3 yrs. I used to see a good amount of them hopping around. My cats stay in the house so i know no cats are eating them. Thank god i saw one chipmunk the other day as i have not seen any for years. I left some nuts out for it.
Chris Martenson wrote the same thing. I have not seen this AT ALL in my experience. Just got back from Colorado, and my car was COVERED with dead insects. My house is crawling with them. However, that is anecdotal, so I stand to be corrected. Still, I wonder if this is just more from the BIG GREEN MONEY scamsters.

Cave crickets and roaches are abundant in Arkansas. Last 2 mild winters didnt help.
When I mow our field in NW Florida, the cow birds used to pig out on insects. Seeing much fewer now and few bugs on windshield at night. We use no pesticides but the farmer bordering us grows cotton and probably uses neonicitinoids. Our bees are having a hard time also.
how do we get all that “organic” fruit and veggies, without skeerin’ off the bugs?
Trumps fault
Russians are doing it!88
No, it’s the Witches fault. (H)
A lot of this has to do with Monsanto. It’s not reported in our news here in the USA, but most of Europe and Russia have banned Monsanto products and burned off all the fields where their products were used.
Anyone doing even a smidgeon of research into Monsanto and their business practices would be hard pressed to label them as anything other than the face of abject evil in our society. From running small farmers out of business by suing when pollen from a Monsanto field pollenates a lion-Monsanto field (they “stole” the pollen), to financially crushing farmers in India with crippling debt (in effect turning that nations farmers into share-croppers), to writing their own “research papers” exonerating their own products…the list goes on and on and on.
It’s also interesting to note that we have TWO former Monsanto lawyers currently sitting on the SCOTUS. You’d never guess, but they are Elena Kagan and Clarence Thomas. Good luck getting any relief through the courts…..
So Kagan and Thomas were MONSANTO lawyers at one time? Interesting. Doesn’t surprise me about that chew bitch Kagan but Thomas? Now THAT is a shocker.
thanks, johnny, now i got RESEARCH to do.
maybe them bugs are LEARNING to stay clear of them traps????????
It’s car wind shields; mostly mine; I drive a lot and kill zillions.
Paranoid, LOL! I get them on my bumper and grill all the time and that’s always a bitch to clean off.
SAVE THE MOSQUITO is a hard sell.
I’m sure there is natural reason for Mosquitoes to exist, but personally it would not bother me if they were to become extinct.
There is no lack of insects where I live. I allow Geckos to freely roam my home as they eat insects. Then only insects I value is the bee and preying mantis.
Dude, you have no choice with the geckos,,, they are your permanent room mates nomatter what you do, i know first hand.
We have to rescue the Geckos from our cats, thus my claim to let them freely roam. I have several in my shop. I have to be careful when I crush cans as they are inside the can drinking leftover beer.
They really like beer!
I remove the tabs on my beer cans so my mustache hairs don’t get pulled. I have picture of Geckos licking the tabs for the fresh beer. Yes they are constant companions.
OMG– Moustache hair caught in beer tabs! I think that is why I no longer drink beer. It is not as bad as foreskin in a zipper but same general horror.
Kevin2, LOL! I wholeheartedly agree. It will soon be cool enough in my area for them to go away. No one could sell me on it either.
If taking out the mosquito means the end of the world; i’m down with it; anything to be rid of mosquitos.
Bullshit article. the ticks, chiggers, grasshoppers squash bugs, flies, ,spinks moth larvae (Tomato Worm) Mexican beetle ,mud wasp, crickets ect are still abundant in my location. and new populations of things like Avorra mites, bed bugs, fleas, scabies, lice, oak borer, pine bark beetle ect have made a resurgence in recient times. Turn on a light out side at nite and a bazillion insects will swarm it.
Old Guy, this sounds like something HCKS would write. You can REALLY call BS on THAT.
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/spotted-lanternfly-spreads-threatens-pa-fruit-and-timber-crops-20170811.html
Thanks for that link.
I haven’t seen the lantern fly here yet, but the relatively new Ash borer is killing ALL the Ash trees. Eventually, I look for the Ash tree to disappear much like the American chestnut in the 1930s. The stink bugs have also moved in the last few years and we’ve had the Gypsy moth since the eighties.
Seems these pests have come here from the Korean peninsula. Payback? You import your THAAD and we’ll backdoor some bugs to eradicate your crops.
JRS, ash trees been hit hard in our area too, we cut down all ash trees this spring to stop the spread, interestingly there are new shoots popping up from the stumps, so theres hope for the species the new trees should be pest free.
I am in NY state in the country, and i have a lot of Ash trees sprouting up all over the place. They seem ok. They grow fast and tall. I never cut trees down. When i die this place will be a forest.
What a ridiculous article. TRULY.
Betcha all those “Bug Zappers” everybody bought back in the 1980s are at fault.
I am willing to bet that the plague of locusts are still doing just fine. That’s one bio-mass thriving.
Those locust swarms are a trip, buddy of mine sent video of one in the philipines, they stripped every leaf off every plant wherever they went, sort of scary actually.
Or, it could mean that the insects have learned how to NOT be trapped.
The cockroaches are doing just dandy. Maybe the U.S. Military can militarize cockroaches to carry little tactical nukes, have them take out Kim Jung-Un. I hear cockroaches can even survive a nuclear blast. “Send in the cockroaches!”
they do pretty well against nukes….but they don’t fare well when it’s my BOOT!
Wait, I thought you people hated science because it was a liberal lie? WTF? Or do you just pick and choose which science you agree with and which you don’t? Can you spell HYPOCRITES?
Zlatco,
“You people” that you’re referring to, could that be the people that actually have an open mind and don’t drink the kool-aid that you obviously drink by the gallon. The liberal lie that you are talking about is real, at least when it comes to the BS that the propaganda machine wants us to believe, “man caused CO2 creating global warming.” Study the facts not the propaganda at the bottom of your gallon of kool-aid.
I have butterflies and dragonflies, in all shapes, sizes and colors, while my neighbor can’t keep three tomato plants alive, in large planters.
Some, on here, are complaining of pests, which can be controlled by simple efforts. These would not have existed, where the environment had been covered in hardtop and sterilized, with regular applications of chemicals.
There is no short, easy answer. People, who make it so that nothing can survive, have a philosophical problem.
One problem with Beaumonts assessment. the fact is everything in on or about the planet is a natural thing. There are no unnatural things. And humans cannot make something into nothing or nothing into something. The whole balance of nature thing is a myth. things have been going extinct forever. and whenever one species goes extinct it creates a void that is soon filled by something else. Those chemicals are composed of natural elements. many natural things like a snakes venom are harmful to organic life. But they are natural just the same. What happens is things go in cycles. It wasn’t chemicals that killed the honeybees. It was the Avorra mite. The honey bee is not native to the Americas. The honey bee was imported by Europeans. and there weren’t any avorra mites in the Americas so the bees here over the course of time lost their resistance to the Avorra mite. and when it came here from Africanized bees it quickly decimated the bee population. Now the bees are beginning to become resistant and making a come back. We hear hacks all the time making the statement that the loss of honeybees will cause starvation. that’s a balant lie. There was all types of plants growing and being pollinated in the Americas before the importation of Honeybees.
They can have my mosquitos, ticks, and flies for free.
I agree with Daisy!

The problem is Monsanto, the Roundup and everything similar to it. You just can’t keep spraying acres and acres of this crap year after year, have it run off into our water run offs, ditches, canals, lakes, oceans and tell me that it doesn’t affect much? I’m outside everyday and most of the whole day and I probably notice things that many wouldn’t. Yes, the insects, the birds, toads, frogs, bees and wildlife are coming up short. Too many trees are dying too. Maybe where some of you live, there are more insects, but here in the Midwest I’m surrounded by farmland and lots of it. It’s the same old stuff every year. Spray it from the ground, spray it from above. Spray the ditch lines to keep those open so the contaminated water can move freely to the creek down the road then into the river and on and on. There you go. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on. I’m not one, obviously, and I can certainly see what is happening. We are in serious trouble and about to see it get a whole lot worse.
Totally agree with you. I developed sinus problems and allergies at the age of 42 after moving to the Midwest. I never had this problem before. I work with a lot of doctors that are not from this area and they all say that there has to be something in the air causing all of the respiratory problems. I firmly believe it is all the farm land surrounding us and using these chemicals. Now this year we had two trees die for no apparent reason. One neighborhood by my Mother has had all of their trees die. What Monsanto has done is pure evil. I read where most of the seeds they use are soaked in chemicals even before planting.
So the number of flying insects has dropped in “managed” areas? Maybe there’s a problem in how they are “managing” the areas.
There are plenty of insects in my area. In fact, I believe I’ve seen more dragonflies this year than any other. We have plenty of wasps, bumblebees, butterflies, mosquitoes, gnats, and houseflies.
Rarely now do I see lightning bugs. (also called fireflies)
I know they are actually a beetle.
As a child, we saw them everywhere around our home.
There are plenty around here in eastern NC. Always have been.
i remember hearing fireflys are disappearing at least 20 years ago….and i’ve heard that several times since then…
I live in southeast ar. out in the country and when sitting out on the porch at night we don’t see maybe 3or4 lightening bugs!! where we use to see hundreds.
Dragonflys catch and eat honeybees. my grand children just this year caught jar fulls lightning bugs. They are abundant in the fields near the creek. I still say bullshit article.
Yes, i am loaded with house flies. There are horses around me and they breed lots of flies. I love those sticky tapes.
OF COURSE WE WILL TAKE ACTION.
Right now! Erm… I mean Tuesday. In… mumble the year 10,191.
PFFF.
Right whatever. We never fix anything, it’s not “profitable”.
It’s been like this in Pennsylvania for 25 years, As a child a walk through tall grass would produce a storm of bugs and moths. Now it’s just ticks…
I hate to break it to you guys, but science really does not care what you believe or don’t. These reports (and there are many) of declining populations of pollinators have been very consistent, regarding butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and native orchard bees. These are the most studies because they are vital to human agriculture, but there is no reason to think that the effects are limited to these specific bugs. Overuse of pesticides, especially systemic chemicals that contaminate the pollen that the bees feed to their babies, increased monoculture fields eliminating wild flowers, Round-up being sprayed all over everything. We are creating a world the will not support human life, and if we refuse to deal with that fact, we deserve what we get.
very well said, doc….thank you for a VERY important post.
The best thing that could happen to this earth is for humans to go extinct! We have turned into a barrel of apples with a bunch of rotten ones. Soon all will be rotten.
patience glasshoppuh, patience!
Fook patience…snatch the pebble from my hand!

Interesting study and the results truly are astounding. However, the research was done in only one country and only the one type of setting within that country. More should be done in various settings around the globe; maybe then we’ll finally have enough ammo against big ag and all its associated corporations!
Aside from a lack of butterflies (can’t recall seeing any since moving to nova scotia) and a less-than-healthy bee population, there are no shortage of bugs where i live 😉
The pesticides are killing the pollinators. It’s more than obvious the chemical producers are backed by the US government. Why else would gmo’s continue to have their way manipulating this nations food against 90% of the peoples wishes. People get sicker leading to big pharma selling more poison drugs. Like the rampant opioid addiction problem where Congress gave the okay to sell millions of pills and the “doctors” gladly wrote the prescriptions while the deaths are through the roof, in turn some profits funneled back to lawmakers. Plainly death by the entire medical establishment. As far as insects, I did not see any love bugs in June or September, normally their heaviest months. Usually they cover bumpers and windshields. I quit eating corn because it’s all gmo.
I have noticed a decline in honey bees and bats and bumble bees but there are as many fookin flies as ever! We don’t have skeeters but I would love to see them along with flies dissapear! You are correct aljamo, We are committing MEDOCIDE!
We call them June bugs here in NY. I only saw a very few at the end of May and then no more. Normally there are a lot more, but as the yrs go on there are less and less. 15 yrs ago there were a lot more in June.

This needs to be a global study. If this study was true most birds and spiders would be extinct by now. The only thing that could cause this is petrochemicals, solar radiation, nuclear radiation, chemtrails, natural mutation(degradation of dna) since the creation of each species, dormancy in preparation for global extinction event. If evolution is built into creation the strongest species should quickly fill the void.
friggin brainwashed idiots. they banned effective rat poison in britian because they claimed that the barn owls would catch a poisoned rat and get sick and die. So the Rat populations exploded. They have guys with little rat dogs go out and kill rats often they kill several hundred on one farm in a single day. I noticed that the D Con wasn’t working. I got some good rat poison at the feed store that does the job. Americas modern agriculture feeds the world. Without modern chemicals that are made from combining natural things the price of food would be so high it would take 90% of your income just to buy food.
Or the alternative, 90% of your income to pay medical bills….
my DOG should have died a few months ago….caught him eating a dead squirrel, and that night was convulsing….the way I see it, he had been poisoned…..i DO have a KEEEENE sense of the obvious.
Rats dug tunnels and burrowed under the dirt into my duck pen. Killed 7 duks in one nite, and i got one duk left. I found the holes, stuffed rate bait down it and next day found 4 dead rats in yard. No more , but i keep looking for holes. Neighbor had a tight coop and still rats got in there and killed most of her chickens. They rat baited and so far ok. These aren’t big city rats. They are medium sized wood rats cuz they like to hide in wood piles. They are bigger than a mouse and smaller than a big city rat. All summer i let my 2 cats live in the duk pen. They get along good with duks, got one duk, but two big geese. Rats didn’t go after the geese. Now i took the cats out of the pen for Fall and they are in the house, so i gotta check for rat holes. Neighbor told me to stick a rat bait down hole and then cover with dirt and a brick.
medical bills? I haven’t been to a doctor since I quit driving truck. and I only went then because I had ti get a health card. Bees are something I know a lot about. During a honey flow a worker bee literly works themselves to death. they only live a few days not long enough to become poisoned. It was those migrant beekeepers who haul thousands of hives about the country who spread the avorra mite to the wild honeybees. Now what is wrong with the food is the meat is grown by introducing growth hormones into the livestock feed. Those hormones cause the fed animals to become fat and mature quickly. Look at the fast food eating humans. They are fat and obese. The little kids mature early and grow big breast. Even the little boys need to wear a bra. We grow most our own food. And I do use chemical fertilizer and poison sprays. We just wash our food before eating it. I also worm my livestock and poison the rats. I believe in all things in moderation. And we are not fat & lazy like most folks.
If you have a black walnut tree. Take 3 green walnuts, soak them in a bowl of cheap vodca for 3 days. Throw out the nuts, pour into bottle, add water and pd vit C to preserve more. One dropperfull will kill worms in pets and people.
I noticed a decline in tumble bugs. You know those turd rollers the roll around balls of cow shit. Sio I investigated. It seems those guys need hard bare ground. and where they fertilize and grow lush pastures the conditions are not favorable for turd rollers. I stopped the semi out west in texas and Arizona and looked and there where plenty of turd rollers. The event of fescue grass in the Ozarks made the turd rollers scarce. There is a logical and reasonable explanation for everything. Many times we simply don’t know what it is.
I think they have all moved to my house. Go outside and get greeted by dozens of flys and mosquitos. And to top it off honey bees have built a hive in the walls of our home.
I thought you meant all the chews have moved to your house.
