        Our hearts here in this house go out to those in Japan and surrounding affected areas. I pray God use this event to wake more people up.
        We have been protected for the most part and blessed here in America, but not for much longer. Ours will be big, maybe bigger than Japan’s.
         
        I noticed in the pic of the grocery store in Hawaii that one of two things is happening. Either; they have no clue how to prep or a lot of people there are already pretty well prepped?

        Hawaii was not inundated per the USGS. They got 3 foot waves that hit at low tide and Hawaii is surrounded by deep sea so the waves did not build higher.
        The west coast is more at risk due to the continental shelf that sits off shore and makes the coastal waters more shallow. This causes the tsunami to build and increases it’s power. The coast of southern  Oregon and northern Calif are projected for 6-8ft waves and they will also hit at low tide starting from 7am PST till noon or so. So far there has been no west coast dammage.

        That’s Dutchsinse and he posts a lot of good stuff all the time. We, at a thread I follow at survivalistboards.com post his stuff quite often. But he is getting his info from the real genius. An Australian sounding scientist that uses sort of a pseudo science that works and he is spot on almost every single time (even down to the location and magnitude) using his method from the sun, it’s coronal hulls, CME’s, sun spots and earthquake lights. He uses two names on youtube one for earth quake watches and warning and one for solar flares. ‘The barcaroller’ and ‘solar watcher’
        He puts on a new list of warnings and watches every 4 to 5 days.

        We have been also following and crabbing about things the USGS has up and then takes down real quick and some things just never puts up at all when others do…it starts to become apparent after awhile. Also NASA hides a lot of things too, but sometimes they don’t get it hidden before being seen  🙂

I don’t buy into it (although I do believe the Mayans had a calendar and it does expire in 2012, but what expires is a “cycle”, so…), but I do believe if enough people “believe” in something, then they have the potential to create a “charge” in that direction.

        1st, my heart goes out to those in Japan, You can’t blame all the Japanese for the misconduct of others.
        That would be like the rest of the world blaming all of us for our government’s misconduct. Ouch!!!

        One guy was even surfing when he should have been preparing.
        The “Not going to happen to me” attitude is what will get you killed every time!

        ALERT:  now a much more reliable source (my doctor) said his son in Japan has called to tell him the plant has melted down.  He suggested starting to take KI but I think we should probably wait till the wind patterns are confirmed (and the map that’s circulating on the web about it says we have about six days before it would reach the west coast USA)
        Soo, I am going to be eating miso soup the next six days and then taking the tablets after that unless I have a compelling reason to do otherwise…

        Regarding KI, i would suggest waiting until we have a confirmation that the plant has melted down, as well as radiation levels… The fallout map MAY be a hoax… the company listed as the originator is based in Australia and is closed over the weekend (I tried to contact them but it’s early morning Australia time), thus we cannot be sure they developed the fallout map…. nonetheless, the wind patterns seem accurate, so if a plant out there blows we can certainly expect radiation on the West coast — the only question would be how much…

        In my opinion, the RAD levels are over estimated… I think it would be significantly lower…but I am no nuclear/radiation expert… in any case, even low levels can be extremely dangerous…

        I was a young soldier in Germany a few weeks after Cherynoble blew up.  We got radiated, and the fallout was bad, especially in the rain.  We weren’t supposed to go out when it was raining, and our C/O put his rain boots on and walked through the grass after it rained and his boots registered on the gieger counter.  Cherynoble was horrible, but the radiation levels weren’t as bad as the chart above.  But we couldn’t drink local milk for over six months due to the cows eating the radiated grass.  What a nightmare.

Let’s say the map is correct and the rad levels are high enough that smart people would take precautions…..1. can you get those tablets at like a walgreens? and how would you make sure your water is safe? What do you do with contaminated boots and clothes? thrown them away or can they be dealt with?

        Mac, I totally agree w/ RUN!!!  There is NO danger in the US from what is happening in Japan.  They design those nuclear power plants to withstand this kind of a shock.  Even if there were a radiation disaster at the plant, we would have very little to worry about. I do feel very sorry for the Japanese people who have been affected by this earthquake and tsunami.  God love them.  Also Mac, I do appreciate your informative stories.  Sit back and relax Mac.  No radiation danger here in the US.

        My one big concern is this – I think there is a good possibility that this earthquake and resultant tsunami were man made events.  Maybe a well placed 50 megaton nuclear bomb on the floor of the ocean could very well cause this to happen – first the shock wave (which is the earthquake) and then the tsunami which is caused by the shock wave plus the super-heating of the ocean water, which would cause a massive buildup of pressure and turbulence deep below the ocean surface, thus causing a  tsunami.

        The initial story of Hawaii being inundated was false, as mentioned. I just pulled in the driveway after flying in from Kauai, Hawaii  and things were really smooth there. Wife on I were on the eastern shore of the island, and the resort director knocked on all the doors, and said there was a mandatory evacuation, and that a tsunami was expected in 5 hours.  The director handed out maps of where to go and said they could also supply transportation. He then said to feel free to strip the beds of pillows, blankets, so we would be comfy at the evacuation site. 
        We drove to a middle school as directed by the map and along the way, noticed all the ATM’s and gas stations were packed.
        We parked on the football field with 300-400 other cars and there was water and coffee provided and alot of Civil Defense Volunteers in there yellow vests were directing traffic. We arrived there at midnite and the small wave came onshore at 0310 hrs HST. No damage, it reached the top of the beach and that was it.
        At 0600, we were sleeping in and on our cars when CD persons said the danger had passed and evac centers would be releasing folks in a pre-planned order so the streets wouldn’t be packed. We were on the beach with drinks in hand by 0930 hrs. Outstanding orderly evac by all involved, obviously practiced and used before. Kauai really had there crap together…….
        Things I did notice, and I jotted a few things down at the time since this was my first kinda real SHTF situation….

        1) I didn’t have a BOB cause I wasn’t home
        2) I made a HUGE mistake and gas gauge was near ‘E’. I wasn’t sure there was enough gas in car to make it to evac site
        3) I had no extra munchies or water with me in room to take to evac site, just beer
        4) I had under $75 cash in wallet……at time I wish I had more
        5) BE PREPARED….I saw a local family at the school who had thought ahead. I saw at least one large plastic tote with ‘TSUNAMI’ written on the side. This family was off in the corner by themselves with music playing, a coleman stove cooking burgers, lawn chairs with table and tarp for  overhead cover erected, blankets, and 2 small pop tents set up playing horseshoes or something off to the side at 2 a.m.    They looked like they were having a party instead of being evacuated….. 

        Guess I learned a couple things…..Other than that, I need to catch up on the radiation news

        First a couple of theories on the cause: 1-the idea of payback for whaling is backward. The japanese are actually taking fewer whales each year. The real reason is the penguins and seals did it. Whales EAT penguins and seals so they are mad at the Japanese for not killing more whales. 2-(and I think this is closer) Charlie Sheen did it to get himself off the front page. He has the power. He’s a warlock, you know. Damn you Charlie, couldn’t you have just put a bigger hex on Lindsey Lohann and spared the people of Japan?
        In all seriousness-there was also a 3.2 quake in Harrah Okla friday morning. Of course that’s minor and we get these little ones a lot here. And with the stuff in Japan going on it wasn’t even worth reporting outside the local area. We almost never get any damage from these. It’s just another reminder to stay alert and prepared. Best to keep one eye or ear on the news even while living our lives as normally as we can. Stay tuned ’cause one day soon SuperChicken is gonna strap on the cape and then it’s our turn!

        I wanted to leave a correction to my earlier comment. It’s not iodine you paint, it’s betadine. Iodine can give you skin problems, betadine is a milder solution of iodine.  I found mine at the feed store. It was only 11.98 for a liter. Since I live in the nw I had to show id to buy it as it’s a controlled substance.

My biggest fear is an earthquake near the New Madrid Seismic Zone.  The New Madrid fault zone is six times bigger than the San Andreas fault zone in California and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.  The biggest earthquakes in the history of the United States were caused by the New Madrid fault. These states are not prepared for a big earthquake.  About 200 years ago, in 1811 and 1812, there were four earthquakes that were so powerful in the area of the New Madrid fault zone that they are still talked about today.  All four of the quakes were estimated to have been magnitude-7.0 or greater.  It is said that those earthquakes opened deep fissures in the ground, caused the Mississippi River to run backwards and that they were felt as far away as Boston.  Jeremy Heidt of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency says that life in the region would be transformed in the event of a major earthquake along the New Madrid fault…. “All communications would be out. All air travel would be out as the FAA air control would go down. All rail travel would fail. Ports would shut down; oil and natural gas pipelines could be off line.” 

        It would be a disaster and I hope and pray it does not happen,but they haven’t had a big one in a while.

        you can’t get injectible novacaine/lidicaine but extra strength oragel is great for numbing external areas before minor surgery i.e. sliver removal, stitches, etc.  Also dermaplast, but its not as strong as the oragel in my experience….

        Usually what I post is just smart-aleck nonsense. Sorry, it’s just my nature. Don’t mean to offend anyone and I certainly don’t want to make light of the tragedy unfolding in Japan. Just want to send a quick reminder to all- Japan is unquestionably the most high tech, organized and capable country in Asia. One of the best is the world actually in terms of dealing with disasters. This quake, tsunami and what may become of their nuke reactors just goes to show how NOBODY is immune or even fully ready to deal with catastrophy. I’ve respected and admired the folks in Japan since I got my first toyota 35 yrs ago (no joke intended.) These are very capable people. What we’re seeing in Japan should re-remind all of us especially here in the US that this is what we could be dealing with in any large scale shtf scenario. Let’s not make the assumption that just because we’re in America it would be any less devastating. Or that we’d deal with it any better. My prayers continue to be with the people of Japan…and with my fellow citizens that we’d wake up and do all we can to be prepared come what may. God bless and be with you all.– Okie

        Thanks for the map. According to it, Greece and Turkey got A LOT of radiation.
        We knew it back then that it was coming towards us. A couple of days after the incident, the winds changed and the clouds were heading south.
        The doom scenarios were verified and the worst thing on top, was a tough spring rain which dropped all particles on the surface.
        I was 18 y.o. back then and i clearly remember all the horror.

        Theeconomiccollapseblog dot com said the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami disaster is one of the greatest economic disasters that the world has seen, and right now the focus is on the devastation in Japan.

        At the moment it is unclear how much of the economic infrastructure of Japan has survived.  What is clear is that the cost of recovering and rebuilding after this disaster is going to put extraordinary financial stress on the Japanese government.

        But the truth is that this is a huge, huge event for a WORLD ECONOMY that was already on the verge of collapse.

        1) You seem to have bought into the Masonic sophism that religious devotion = fanaticism, and that the world would somehow be better off without any of the religions (or at least if their adherents didn’t really practice their tenets in public society).
         
        Not at all, practice away in peace.  I’m quite fine with people believing in (a) higher power(s).  Also practicing their religious beliefs privately or in public and nor do I believe anyone should stop them.  I also know 90+% of all religious people are peace loving.  I’ve just not personally met too many fanatical agnostic people in my time either.  All the extreme nuts I’ve met were religious (note here, ones I’ve met).  My issue with religion comes from all the countless lives wasted going to war over it.  Why do people think they have a right to shove their beliefs down someone elses throat is beyond me.  My friends are about evenly split between religious and agnostic and none of us feel the need to try and “convert” the others.  We’re happy in our beliefs and in theirs.
         
        2) What you seem to forget is that your worldview (i.e., Let’s get God out of society and build a better planet) has already been implemented in Stalinist Russia, Hitlerite Germany, Maoist China, etc with less than desirable results.  Tell me: Who are the fanatics???
         
        That’s not my world view, it’s the one you want me to have, but thanks for trying to shove it down my throat like it was mine.  I don’t want to change society other then to have people let others be happy in their personal beliefs.  Hell, I’m agnostic and I had no interest in having the  Pledge of Allegiance removed from schools.  Kids that don’t wish to say it can opt out if they like.  Good enough for me, its not being forced.  I have issue with religious nut groups like the Westboro Baptist Church and others like them.
         
        3) Your answer to my #5 was honest, and explains the rest of your commentary.
         
        What, that I am an honest person who volunteers as a fire fighter in my community, risking my life to save others.  Or that I am going to hell because I live my life better then most Christians I know who won’t stop to help others but believe they’re going to heaven because they pray nightly?  Yeah, right.  Actions speak louder then words.  If God exists and is righteous as those claim He is, then I’ll be in those gates like all other deserving people.  Otherwise if He doesn’t exist it will all go black which, unlike most, doesn’t really bother me.
         
        4) Your answer to my #2 doesn’t hold water: I describe God as the unmoved mover.  You respond that perhaps the universe itself is an unmoved mover, and that my philosophy is contradictory not to allow for the possibility.  Problem: The universe is inanimate matter, not creative intelligence.  It cannot therefore be the unmoved mover, but only the product of Him.
         
        Sorry but Zeus is the unmoved mover.  There I ruined the story.  You realize just because you claim you know who the unmoved mover is, does not make it so, right?  You realize this is the most unscientific statement you could possibly make, right?  Who created God?  Out of nothing?  Oops.  Right.  I don’t buy it, sorry.  But no worries, no one can prove you wrong because in your own head, you’re always right.  I often changed my stance when presented with scientifically backed work that I can delve into it’s raw data (why I didn’t buy into global warming, when you delete your data, I don’t buy in 🙂 ) and/or read their related papers.
         
        Until then, I’ll live my life in peace while helping those that want it, when I can as best I can.  Which is how I hope everyone lives theirs.

        As far as initial reports are looking, once power gets restored Japan might not be that bad off in a production standpoint.  Yes it will take months/years to rebuild and days/weeks to get just Tokyo back to normal, but most of the industrial infrastructure we (import nations) depends on seems to have been unaffected.  Remember this is a natural disaster so the government their will have to pay for most of the damages and only those with Earthquake insurance will be paid out (its very expensive, living in the Pacific Northwest I can tell you it is cost prohibitive to say the least).  Their government is just like ours, print happy.  They’re on QE100+ at this point (see how well it’s worked for them, huh? 🙂 ).
         
        So the EU will likely get their monies, otherwise I bet the Federal Reserve buys it.  It’s a massive Ponzi scheme anyways.  The UK was buying most of our debt when the Chinese pulled back a few months ago and we were buying the UK’s in return.  It’s just retarded to a degree that is nearly unexplainable and infuriating enough to make one bald.
         
        With the Federal Reserve pumping 4 billion into the economy on a daily basis the stock market can stay irrational a lot longer.  They say the $400 billion will be SPENT by June.  They never, ever, said they would stop QE2.  Just that it would be spent by June (I read the press releases yesterday to verify after I read someone else pointing this fact out).  And they also said, at least 400 billion… Gah.  So don’t expect QE3, just expect QE2 round 2.

        It’s going to be interesting when those playing musical chairs realize we’re going from billions of chairs to one.  If you quit the game before the music stops you’re really not a loser, you just opted not to try and be the winner.  But in this case, you might have won big time if you get out in time.  I have money in the market for the time being.  But I’m slowly pulling it out as my purchases meet what I planned for a return, then converting that liquid asset (cash) into a hard ones (gold/silver, not much more room for the 3 B’s anymore).  Just remember, don’t gamble with money you cannot afford to lose (and yes, investing IS gambling, no matter how many money people tell you otherwise).  Like my father likes to say, don’t play poker with your lunch money, you might be soon hungry.

        No agenda, no people behind me, sorry.  You’ve been doing a lot better with your English as of late also, nice work (and no, I am not being sarcastic).
        I realized you mostly copied and pasted the zerohedge article and it has plenty of good and valid points.  I posted a few counter ones on their forums also but was providing alternatives here too.   It wasn’t an attack on you.  Just providing alternatives.  Looking at every angle gives one a clearer picture.
         
        I do no have a short temper, you just think I do.  It actually irritates my wife how calm I tend to stay while shes going off on something (Irish in her I suppose).  Having done technical support for a year for HP (phone based) and getting calls that start with profanity before I can finish my “Hello and thank you for calling HP” line I’ve learned its just not worth getting ones blood pressure up.  I find if I get upset over something or something someone rights here it’s more effective to write in a level headed manner.  Now, I may not always succeed.  But I try.
         
        Also Jane, there is no one with/behind me.  Only my father sees the trouble we’re in and is prepping (moms going along but thinks we’re crazy) and he doesn’t do much online with his 1 character a minute typing speed.  Otherwise it’s just a few friends.  Neighbors all work for the city/state and see nothing bad even on the horizon so I don’t discuss it.  I have no affiliations online either.  And as I’ve always stated, I hate both parties equally.  I want a tiny government based solely on the constitution and nothing else.
         
        I just don’t think the government should have a lot of rights to tell us what we can and cannot do as grown adults.  I would be fine if the laws passed by a 2/3rds super majority but they don’t.  So a minor majority gets to dictate over a major minority (51% controlling over 49%, as an example).  The government should have no more power then a citizen.  Novel concept I think 🙂

        I got it.  So the EU will get their bailout, either from Japan or the Federal Reserve as one of their creditors.  The last time the Federal Reserve has bailed the EU, and it seems it’s not working.

        I think I can state, without falling into the 2012/end of the world theories mindset, that it seems obvious that there is a significant geological change happening this year.
         
        Combine that with a massive oil spill, climate aberrations (call it climate change or whatever), mass animals deaths, global food shortages, political unrest, a failing global economy, quickly rising inflation, joblessness, ad infintum, and a dire confluence of factors is manifested.
        There doesn’t have to be a series of conspiracies for all of these situations to add up to a high probability of a wide variety of Dramatic Change Events. How all of this plays out, well, we won’t know until it happens. It will be different in various places. Prepare well, plan, and see what happens.
        In good news, my wife has had her eyes opened by the disaster in Japan. She is fully on the preparation bandwagon, and, being the sharp lady she is, came to all the right conclusions without me even having to coach her along. I now have budgetary approval to get a full-on bug-out retreat in the mountains within a year. In addition to our land here, we should be well prepared.
         
        I got my garden tilled this weekend, the onions and lettuce in the ground, listened to the deer cross my creek last night, and went fishing today. Life is golden out in the sticks.

        I truly feel sorry for the people of Japan.Watched people killed by this thing that hit them(man-made or not).Heard that 80k is the number that BBC est. dead.There is almost nothing that men can do to prepare a nuke reactor plant for such a magnitude event. I among those whom you see going door to door offering magazines and free Bible studies.We feel that having a knowledge of the Bible and living in harmony with God’s will is the best insurance you can have(after all,if you accepted that J.C. brought back to life people who died while on Earth,how much more can he do in the future if we perish in the current times ?).Having said all that,We ALSO have been informed that NOW is the time to put our G.O.D. baggage together(this was late last year)and plan for floods/earthquakes as a given in the near future world-wide..Living in the New Madrid fault area(Memphis suburbs).This makes more than a little sense.I personally looked up a few weeks ago a study on local earthquakes by a Illinois university as to the “losses” suffered by such an event here.Estimates were put at about 65,000 dead/badly injured in Arkansas and about half that in Tennessee .Nevertheless,I am planning a flower/veggie garden in the meantime.I hope “the Event” doesn’t happen,but have prepped just in case.

        Im calling BS on that, and they better get right with the truth, I dont really see the point of lieing about this at this point, whats the benifit of lieing when its about safety?
        Im also not convinced that they are in the midst of a Reactor melt down, they normally wouldnt take the measure of dumping sea water into a reactor if it wasnt out of control, sea water will destroy the reactor, and could also cause super heated steam explosions, that could further the possiblities of a Radation leak.
        I just dont think were getting the straight up story on this all

        My prayers go out to the people of this country, seems like it would be very difficult to prep for something like this..

        Radiation levels that high wouldn’t occur even in a full-scale nuclear war (all levels shown are lethal)
        The lesson is – don’t try to ‘dodge the bullet’ – don’t live in an area subject to tsunamis in the first place (there was barely time to run – zero time to recover supplies)

        The rad levels on the fallout map are pure guesswork on somebodies part as nobody has any idea how much total radiation would be released nor over what time frame.   Strictly fear mongering.
        The statement “…radiation level outside the reactor became elevated to 1,015 microsievert—the equivalent of being exposed to the maximum allowable level for a full year in a single day.” is also bs as the normal sea level background radiation level is about .08 to .12 microsieverts/hour – or about 700 to 1,050 microsieverts per year.
        So it is more accurate to say that this is the equivalent of a years normal dose in a single day.  Big difference!  This is also about what a person receives on a normal trans-pacific airline flight.  Again, simple fear mongering.
        Look at the chart below that “news” article and then look up the conversion.
        1 microsievert = 0.0001 rem
        It would take 10,000 microsieverts to equal 1 rem, and below 50 rem (500,000 microsieverts!) there are no noticeable short-term affects.

        “Adding to the complexity of the situation was that reactor No. 3 reactor uses a special mix of nuclear fuel known as MOX fuel. MOX is considered contentious because it is made with reprocessed plutonium and uranium oxides. Any radioactive plume from that fuel would be more dangerous than ordinary nuclear fuel, experts say, because inhaling plutonium even in very small quantities is considered lethal.”
        The NY Times does not mention the PONDS, however (who knows how many years worth of Plutonium-239 waste was in those PONDS!)

        I ordered pills on Saturday (Pot. Iodine) and total recieved an email that due to huge demand they were cancelling my order. It was $17.99 for 240 pills. Bet they were rebottled in smaller amounts and resold at huge price increase. So much for getting prepped for any problem. Hope the experts are right and this won’t affect those of us in the United States. Good luck everyone.

        Comments….. I haven’t ordered any pills for nuclear poisoning.  I’ll take my chances and wait it out. I’ve had my doses of radiation (4 CT scans) in the past 4 months.  If it reaches catastrophic doses here, life may not be worth living. I fear an earthquake more than I do nuclear poisoning.  99% of the things you worry about never comes to pass.  Some of those iodine and potassium pills can be dangerous to your health.  Research first then proceed.
         
        Crisp $10 bills work for me. What good is gold and silver for the earthquake victims in Japan?  Their biggest asset is floating 10 miles out in the ocean, they are basically screwed.  Not even a pot to piss in.

        I lived in Japan for a year, courtesy or our government.  I have not seen or heard of another group of people with so little respect for the natural world as the Japanese.  However, they are acting within their rights.  Similarly, we have a number of people here in the USA with no regard for unborn babies (among MANY other problems), and they too, are acting within their rights.  What we are talking about here is called “karma”.  What comes around goes around.  Our turn is coming up.

        It’s incredible to me how people don’t look BACK to history for guidance. Here in California I’ve seen some people stocking up on food, buying ioDATE pills, etc. However, for all you doomsayers and anybody ready to run around like the chicken saying the sky is falling… consider the following:
        1) We blew the hell out of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. Both are beautiful, thriving cities now. And oh… all of that nuclear fallout which went up into the atmosphere more than 50,000 feet? Didn’t impact America.
        2) During the 50’s and 60’s we did atomic bomb testing all over the Pacific. Blew the living hell out of Bikini atoll and the mainland USA was NOT affected.
        3) We also invented and blew up HYDROGEN bombs in the Pacific which are MORE powerful than the normal atomic bomb and more powerful than any nuclear reactor. The USA was not harmed.
        4) For years there was underground testing of nuclear weapons near Las Vegas with minimal amounts of radiation escaping. Las Vegas is still there people.
        5) Three Mile island was bad.. but the core DID NOT melt down and there was ZERO lives lost. It also did NOT contaminate the whole USA.
        6) Only 60 people died in the Chernobyl accident. However, about 4,000 WILL BE the total when it’s all said and done from the fallout in the immediate vicinity and the fallout further out into other nations.
        THINK FOR YOURSELF! Don’t let ‘blogs, newscasts, radio’s talking heads, etc. think for you. Get the facts and get REAL!

        I couldn’t agree with you more Jonny V.  The problem I see is the planet in general doesn’t have a clue what that is going to look like, and when it occurs they aren’t going to believe it…then again they don’t believe much anyway except they believe they’ll have another Big Mac, Budweiser and a Camel — free of charge, of course.  You reap what you sow…get what you give, and what goes around tends to come around in a way seldom anticipated by your common sheeple.  My point is, killing thousands by abortion tends to impact us in a very dark way, even if it is not done with your consent or mine — we are still in the path of the consequences and culpable to some extent.  The same goes with sending thousands of our young men and women to the sandboxes of the world to annihilate thousands of innocent men, women and children will have the same horrific impact on humanity as a whole.

        Anybody see the TV shots of the Chinook ( big, twin rotor ) helicopter with the bucket slung underneath ferrying water this morning ?  10 to 1 they are dumping that in the pools that hold the spent rods trying to keep the water from evaporating off and the rods melt down.
        THIS is the same issue with every nuke plant in the US….they store the spent fuel rods ( which are still pretty hot ) on site in an open pool of water housed in a simple metal building.  Without a constant source of new water to put in the pool, you’ll get almost the same problem as if the power core melts down…..only there is NOTHING but the shell of a building to contain it.
        THIS has got to be the dumbest excuse for a plan going.  But since nobody want’s the used stuff buried in their back yard, it’s just piling up at the nuke plants all over the country.

        Comments….. I’ve seen a fewcomments made on how stoic the Japanese people are taking this disaster. Being human beings I believe their “stiff upper lip” is changing.  When will the rioting begin?

He criticized preparations for an evacuation if conditions worsen and said centers already housing people moved from nearby the plant do not have enough hot meals and basic necessities.”
         
        Like the USA and other countries, it just goes to show how unprepared they are to handle disasters.  This should be a heads up for people to realize that you must prepared yourself to take control when trouble hits.

        I think the fears over the impact on the US have little basis. Anything we get will be minimal. I’d be more worried about the poor job being done by the NRC on plants here in the US.  We have a poor record of oversight enforcement on security in the mining and off-shore drilling industries, and the nuclear power regulatory enforcement is just as bad.

In my opinion, the reactor disaster in japan is being way understated.  right now, accoeding to some reports, the whole thing is out of control.  My prediction is this.  before this disaster is done, many parts of japan will be totally uninhabital. The melt down in chernobyl will be a picnic compared to this one.  Plus, another quake and sunami could finish off the whole island.
            There are no good scenerios here, just worse, and worser.

        YourDaddy: Thanks for the link. I searched for that specific message; and that date but didn’t find it. Do you think they would have pulled it? Nevertheless the link was helpful and interesting. I noted the mention of DC, Hamilton, Victoria, Regina, Santa Barbara, and Salinas in particular.

        Hamilton is a suburb of Toronto and on the Great Lakes and  the extended New Madrid fault I think. Victoria is in BC north of Seattle so anything for Victoria goes double for Seattle. Santa Barbara and Salinas in California, which speaks for itself. Regina is in the interior of Canada, but may be succeptible to flooding as noted by Scallion and visioned by others as the arctic ice cap melts and the sea rises. None of these come as any surprise to me as I am pretty well versed in the potential Earth Changes that will arise: which is why I am located where I am located.

        Inflation by a thousand cuts, but death for thousands at a wack comes with the changes of the sky: and a new heaven and a new earth, as this one passes away. I’ll see you on the other side, one way or another, eventually.

        Much must yet occur according to bible prophecy for believers to accept that these changes are imminant. That must be US as it also describes the prosparity of the wheat and barley for a penny, but that hell and death follows after him.

        A good description of the USA in world affairs since WWI, I think. So WE are here in the Last Days. SHTF America claims it is “grim time that will overwhelm all the nations of the earth”.

        While some predict a 90% die off, Revelation suggests first 25% and then 33% of the world’s population will die during this time; or 50%. Thankfully, most of my life has been lived in the lower percentile group! 🙂

        Something else to think about:

        This guy in Japan talks about how wrong so many “experts” here in the U.S. are. Discussions about the propaganda the “experts” and the main stream media produce and how Not to be a manipulated victim is something I’m not seeing a whole lot of on the internet.

        The lesson is, If things went haywire here in the U.S. somehow or other (as if things haven’t already?) it might be difficult to get a knowledgeable, straight and honest answer. As a result, I don’t know about you, but I think I’m going to practice following Mike in Tokyo Rogers’ Golden Rule about TV: “90% of everything you see on TV is bullshit; the other 10% are commercials.”
        As far as the internet goes, if they’re so-called official “experts” maybe the same ratio applies?

        The news said, Japan’s nuclear plants were built by General Electric (GE).  The technicians were also trained by GE.

        That tells you they are importing comments posting from several articles in the past.
