According to prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the attack campaign against Gaza by Israel will last “as long as necessary.” Israel appears to remain committed to fighting the “terrorists” entrenched in Gaza, Netanyahu said in a televised address on Sunday after a week of fighting.
“Our campaign against the terrorist organizations is continuing with full force,” he stated. “We are acting now, for as long as necessary, to restore calm and quiet to you, Israel’s citizens. It will take time,” he added according to a report by RT.
In recent days, Tel Aviv has faced mounting international criticism over the hostilities, which involve exchanges of airstrikes from Israel and rocket attacks from Palestinian militants. The escalation has resulted in civilian deaths on both sides, though with significantly more victims on the Palestinian side.
The Israeli air campaign against Hamas, which has involved multiple strikes on high-rise buildings in the Palestinian enclave, has been criticized by the UN. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both parties to stop the fighting immediately. One of the strikes on Saturday destroyed a 13-floor Gaza building that housed Qatar-based Al-Jazeera and the Associated Press. –RT
“The Secretary-General reminds all sides that any indiscriminate targeting of civilian and media structures violates international law and must be avoided at all costs,” the spokesman for Guterres, Stephane Dujarric, said.
The rhetoric is ramping up just as Turkey threatens involvement in the fighting. Neither side appears to be backing down and there looks like there will be no end to the constant bombing from either side. All we can hope is that this will cool off and we don’t see an escalation to the global level. War is not the answer but that appears to be the only solution when it comes to the ruling classes ideas.

International law never condemns the use of civilian infrastructure and human shields, whose locations were targeted intentionally as the source of fire.
