Houthi rebels in Yemen are claiming credit for a recently “successful” missile attack on the USS Abraham Lincoln.
The attack occurred in the Arabian Sea, according to Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree. And a second attack targeting two American naval destroyers in the Red Sea happened around the same time, he also confirmed.
The strikes involved “a number of cruise missiles and drones,” Saree says. And they occurred “while the American enemy was preparing to carry out hostile operations” targeting Yemen, which is controlled, at least in the capital of Sanaa and in the northwest of the country, by the Houthi Shia group.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Houthi rebels have been targeting both Israeli and Western shipping in the critical Red Sea for the purpose of pressuring Israel into stopping its attacks on the Gaza Strip.
According to Saree, the Houthi group “achieved its goals successfully” with a planned air attack by the U.S. ultimately being “thwarted.” The two attacks together lasted about eight hours.

Ever since Israel decided to launch a second war on Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis have escalated their demands for stopping the Red Sea attacks to include an Israeli ceasefire with Lebanon.
The Houthis also recognize that Israel is not alone in its aggression, and quite frankly could not even act alone were it not for continued support from both the United States and the United Kingdom, which are “turning the Red Sea region into a zone of military tension” with their pro-Israel aggression.
The Houthis further blame the U.S. and the UK for causing “repercussions on maritime navigation” with their actions on behalf and in support of Israel and its multi-pronged military operations in the Middle East.
The Pentagon is rejecting claims by the Houthis that they attacked the USS Abraham Lincoln.
“To my knowledge, not aware of any attacks against the Abraham Lincoln,” commented spokesman Pat Ryder to reporters.
Communist China’s Xinhua news agency further reported that at least 10 Houthis were killed in two separate U.S. drone strikes in the country’s central Al-Bayda province around the time of the carrier attack, though this is according to Yemeni sources and not necessarily U.S. sources.
The United States Central Command (Centcom) later tweeted that the Abraham Lincoln had, in fact, been attacked by “Iran-backed Houthis,” Iran always being mentioned because this country is Israel’s number-one enemy in the Middle East – and an enemy that for years Israel has wanted the U.S. and other Western allies to destroy in pursuit of Greater Israel.
Centcom says it also carried out several strikes of its own against targets in Syria that are believed to be connected to “Iran-backed groups,” though these groups were not specifically named in official reports.
According to U.S. officials, Yemen’s Houthis are a “proxy of Iran,” though the Houthis deny this.
“Western Navy has no rights to float on the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea,” one commenter wrote about how the U.S. and its allies should not even be in the Middle East doing Israel’s bidding in the first place.
“Also, the U.S. has no rights to be in the Mediterranean Sea. Local players should hit them hard so that they don’t come back.”
“This is all for Israel and nothing else,” wrote another. “Putting thousands of U.S. sailors’ lives in danger for one man, Netanyahu.”
