All over the United States we are witnessing unprecedented shortages of ammunition, physical gold and physical silver. Recent events have helped fuel a “buying frenzy” that threatens to spiral out of control. Gun shops all over the nation are reporting that they have never seen it this bad, and in many cases any ammo that they are able to get is being sold even before it hits the shelves. The ammo shortage has already become so severe that police departments all over America are saying that they are being told that it is going to take six months to a year to get their orders. In fact, many police departments have begun to trade and barter with one another to get the ammo that they need. Meanwhile, the takedown of paper gold and paper silver has unleashed an avalanche of “panic buying” of physical gold and physical silver all over the planet. In the United States, some dealers are charging premiums of more than 25 percent over the spot price for gold and silver and they are getting it. People are paying these prices even though they are being told that delivery will not happen for a month or two in many cases. Some dealers are feverishly taking as many orders as they can, and they are just hoping that they will be able to get the physical gold and silver to eventually fill those orders. Personally, I have never seen anything like this. If things are this tight now, what is going to happen when the next major financial crisis strikes and people really begin to panic?
The shortages and rationing of ammunition at gun shops all over America just seem to keep getting worse. The following is from an article by a gun owner down in Texas named Brad Meyer…
If you’d like to see a normally sullen sales clerk chortle with derisive pleasure, just walk into just about any gun range, sporting goods store or mass merchandiser and try and buy a couple boxes of .22 ammunition.
Gun enthusiasts are up in arms about a nationwide shortage of ammunition. Handgun ammo in general is particularly difficult to find – and when you do find it, there are restrictions on the amount you can buy and how much you’re going to be paying for it.
While the list of hard to find ammo is long, .22 long rifle and 9mm handgun ammunition are particularly difficult to find in quantity. And the few places that have it are charging a premium rate and usually limiting purchases to one box, per person, per day.
Many gun owners try to find ammunition by going on the Internet, but things have gotten so tight that now any ammo that becomes available online is often gone within seconds…
There are websites where people across the country post links to where ammunition is available – and it sells out within seconds. Not minutes or hours – seconds.
Unfortunately, all of this demand is also driving up prices. Just check out what Meyer says is happening to the price of standard .22 ammo…
The demand is driving up the cost of ammunition. Six months ago, standard .22 ammo – the most common type of bullet produced in the world – could be had in bulk for around five cents apiece. It is now going for 50 cents or more on some websites – and people are paying it.
But this shortage is not just affecting private citizens. According toNewmax, police departments all over the nation are dealing with ammo shortages unlike anything that they have ever seen before…
Sheriff Anthony DeMeo of Nye County, Nev., was told his department’s regular order of 50,000 rounds could take up to a year to arrive.
“This is the first time ever I’ve heard that there’s a problem with a law-enforcement agency getting ammo for their agency,” DeMeo told The Las Vegas Sun.
These departments are not alone. Law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia are among many that are having to limit how much they give their officers due to the shortage.
Could you imagine waiting for “up to a year” to get more ammunition?
A recent article posted on CNSNews.com had some more examples of police departments that are reporting that there is a massive wait to get more ammo…
Chief Pryor of Rollingwood, Texas says of the shortage:
“We started making phone calls and realized there is a waiting list up to a year. We have to limit the amount of times we go and train because we want to keep an adequate stock.”
“Nobody can get us ammunition at this point,” saysSgt. Jason LaCross of the Bozeman, Montana police department.
LaCross says that manufacturers are so far behind that they won’t even give him a quote for an order.
“We have no estimated time on when it will even be available,” LaCross says.
This is insane.
What in the world could be causing such an ammo crunch?
Well, certainly the demand for guns and ammo has been trending up in recent years – especially since Barack Obama was elected.
But that doesn’t fully account for the shortages that we are witnessing at the moment.
So what is going on?
Well, some people believe that the federal government is responsible. It has been reported that they have signed contracts to purchase “up to” 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. According to Forbes, this amount of ammunition would be enough to fight a “hot war” in America for 20 years…
The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.
Could this be a way that the Obama administration is trying to restrict the amount of ammo that gets into the hands of private citizens?
That is what some people are suggesting.
According to talk radio show host Michael Savage, the ammo contracts that the federal government has signed give them priority over all other purchasers…
What Homeland Security is doing here is they’re issuing a contract to buy up to that amount of ammo if they want it…
It’s a way to control the amount of market that’s available on the commercial market at any time.
If they go to the ammo manufacturers and say give me 50 million rounds, give me another 30 million rounds… if they periodically do this in increments, they’re going to control how much ammo is available on the commercial market.
As part of their contract it stipulates in there that when the government calls and says give us another quantity, that everything they make has to go to the government priority one before any of it goes to the commercial market.
So, if they get nervous, all they have to do is use that contract that they have in place… and they just say ‘give us some more.’
So whenever the government wants to tighten the supply of ammunition, all they have to do is invoke their contracts and order more for themselves.
Meanwhile, Obama appears to be doing other things to restrict the amount of ammo that gets into the hands of private gun owners.
For example, there are reports that the Obama administration plans to use executive orders to greatly restrict the importation of ammo from overseas.
So if anything, the shortage of ammunition is only going to get worse, not better.
Meanwhile, the “panic buying” of physical gold and physical silver that we have seen lately has really run down inventories.
According to Reuters, demand has become so intense that the U.S. Mint has suspended sales of gold coins for the first time since 2009…
The U.S. Mint said it has suspended sales of its one-tenth ounce American Eagle gold bullion coins as surging demand after bullion’s plunge to two-year lows depleted the government’s inventory. This marks the first time it has stopped selling gold product since November 2009, dealers said.
At the same time, precious metals dealers all over the country are scrambling to meet the voracious demand that they have been seeing this month. The following is an excerpt from a letter that the CEO of Texas Precious Metals recently sent out to his customers…
The physical silver market is, in a word, ugly. There is no telling at this point when mint inventories will return to normal, but you can be sure it will not happen within the next 8 weeks. Most dealers, at this point, are selling their current customer demand forward, meaning they are selling product they do not presently have, expecting to pull from future mint allocations. Consequently, future allocations will face pressure from today’s demand. It is not my intent here to comment on the business practices of other companies, but I will say that no one can possibly predict future allocations at the time. The US mint, for example, releases its allocations weekly, and until then, dealers have no insight into allocation levels. Last week, we turned away business in excess of 100,000 ozs of silver because of stock depletion. However, we stand by the notion that it is better to lose a sale than lose a customer by delaying delivery two months (or more).
A similar thing is happening over in Asia. According to the Financial Times, soaring demand has caused a shortage of gold at the Hong Kong Gold & Silver Exchange Society…
Haywood Cheung, president of the Hong Kong Gold & Silver Exchange Society, said the exchange had effectively run out of most of its holdings as members looked to meet a shortfall in supply amid rampant retail demand for gold products.
“In terms of volume, I haven’t seen this gold rush for over 20 years,” he told the Financial Times on Monday, adding that the exchange only had around twenty 1kg bars, and 100 five-tael bars left in its inventory. “Older members who have been in the business for 50 years haven’t seen such a thing.”
But most disturbing of all is what Jim Sinclair told King World Newsrecently. Apparently his friend went to get his gold out of a Swiss bank the other day and they refused to give it to him…
A person that I know with significant deposits in one of the primary Swiss banks, in allocated gold, wanted to take out his gold and was just refused on the basis of directives from the central bank….
They told him the amount was in excess of 200,000 Swiss francs and the central bank had instructed them not to do it because it has to do with anti-terrorism and anti-money laundering precautions.
I really wonder whether those are precautions or whether the gold simply isn’t there. Now you tell me that a London delivery has basically failed. It has to raise our suspicions that the lack of physical gold behind the paper gold is literally so severe that we are coming to understand that it is in fact not there.
The gold that people think is stored is not stored, and the inventory of the warehouses for exchanges may not be holding deliverable gold. There has always been speculation about whether or not the physical gold the US claims to store is in fact in those vaults.
The greatest train robbery in history might be all of the gold, and it would only be something like we have described above that would happen right before gold makes historic highs.
There simply is no gold behind the paper. One example is AMRO, a second is your example with Maguire, and a third is my dear friend who was refused his gold on the basis that its value was too high. Remember this friend of mine had his gold in an allocated account in storage at a major Swiss bank. I repeat, there is no gold.
So are we going to see more of this?
Will it soon become evident that there is simply not enough physical gold to cover all of the promises that the banks have made?
Jim Sinclair sure seems to think so.
In another interview, John Embry expressed similar sentiments to King World News…
This gets back to the tip of the iceberg when the Dutch Bank ABN AMRO came out and literally said that if you have allocated gold with us, you can’t have it.
That, to me, is a default, and it gets back to what Jim Sinclair related when one of his friends went to a Swiss bank and couldn’t get his allocated gold. I mean that’s preposterous. If it’s allocated it should be there, but it’s clearly not there. I think this is the beginning of the end of the massive Ponzi scheme in paper gold. I have been talking about this for some time, and it will have an enormous impact on future gold and silver prices.
When it becomes widely known that all of the people who think they own gold in fact don’t own gold, that it’s been hypothecated and re-hypothecated so many times that there are 100 claims for every single ounce of physical gold, that is when the prices of gold and silver will really go berserk to the upside, and at that point the shorts will have serious problems.”
If those that helped engineer the recent takedown of paper gold and silver were hoping to scare people away from physical gold and silver, then they failed miserably. For even more on this, please see my recent article entitled “10 Signs The Takedown Of Paper Gold Has Unleashed An Unprecedented Global Run On Physical Gold And Silver“.
All of this is just another example why I encourage people to get prepared while times are still relatively good.
Once disaster strikes, it may be too late to get the things that you need.
Right now there are a whole lot of people out there wishing that they had stocked up on ammo when it was much cheaper and much more readily available.
We are moving into a time when everything that can be shaken will be shaken. Use the stability provided by the false bubble of economic hope that we are experiencing right now as an opportunity to get prepared. The next major wave of the economic collapse is rapidly approaching and time is running out.

Waited too long to buy more silver
Why hasn’t anyone mentioned these shortages sooner?
[laughing]
I’m not contributing to the shortages. Sure wish I were. Every month I find myself saving for the mortgage payment from the month before and every month it just gets harder and harder. There’s real inflation going on out there.
Fixed Income: I sence your despair. An extra
bag o’beans, anything on sale(preferably long-
term storage), even if you spend just $5bucks a week-
These add items up 🙂
You can get free storage buckets too at places like grocery store bakeries – just ask for them. As long as they’re food-grade (which they will be, from a bakery), you can use them. Then order some oxygen absorbers and mylar bags (they don’t cost that much) and look on youtube for instructions, and you’ve got it made!
Fixed, you have enough items for a garage sale? You won’t make a killing but 25-75 extra bucks could help, right?
Check with some local churches that have a parking lot/garage sale. See if they’d be ok with you piggy backing them. There are churches that’ll allow you to.
I broke down and paid a ransom for three boxes of 9mm which doesn’t exist in my area and is just as hard to find online.

I can say “categorically” that hollow points are not for training. They have one purpose.I don’t buy a word they say.
Just means we need to rely on each other, it is our government to begin with, if we brought it into this world then by God we will remove it from this world.
Napolitano has lied about this from DAY 1.
I believe Obama and Napolitano met and coluded to use TAX PAYER MONEY to stop the Citizens from Purchase of ammunition…
Then if you look into this a bit more.. Why are Janet and Barry buying armored vehicles to use in the streets.
National police force?
You would have to be blind deaf and dumb to not see what they are attempting to do.. IN MY OPINION.
If they cant control your weapons and gun sales,, they will simply buy all the ammo and control you that way..
SHTF folks..
we are not alone..

Sounds like to me that the cops and sheriff’s should rethink going against the civilians and maybe join forces with the civilians.
Maybe the cops should not use up their ammo shooting at civilians and monster targets.
Long time lurker, 1st time poster and someone who’s been there, done that, earned the ribbons & doggie yummies, in places far yonder.
FYI, focus upon the initial enemy who proclaims to secure safety and security for the benefit of the greater good of society, they are the strategic threat, as they are organized, equipped via tax dollars and staffed with echelons of communist useful idiots, who’re devoid of any human empathy. They intend to kill you and yours if need be. Their agenda has minimal room for maneuver, it’ll be their way or a grave…call it a statistic in an official after-action report.
The zombies will be stage two, but at least they wont be taxpayer funded and vetted via govt financial backing and covert leadership.
As somebody used to state sometime back here…aim small…miss small.
To which I might add…and may God speed and protect us all.
R-h over and out.
Rookie, like your AAR. I hope others read and appreciate what you just shared. Welcome aboard, we all can use your insight and experience.
possee: what doesn’t make sense to me is that almost all of DHS personnel are issued the H&K P2000 .40cal. They made the transition from the Glock 17 in late 2008 to early 2009. They qualify with FMJ rounds and carry HP on duty. A large order from DHS may cause a shortage of both types of .40 cal. ammo but we’re seeing shortages across the board of all popular calibers. It would seem that those that are late to the prepper scene are the cause through their ‘panic buying’. The box stores in my rural county are always out of ammo. However the Army-Navy store will sell all the ammo you need for a premium: .223 @ $22+ a box of 20. But the hardware/sporting goods store in the next town will sell the same ammo for $15+ a box of 20 but the catch is that you can only buy 2 boxes a day of any caliber they carry. Both places have their shelves full. But the one thing no one has is .22LR.
Just mentioned daily for the last two months on various financial magazines on the net, the Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg to name a few. It is talked about on the radio and television.
Maybe you should get on the list of special people who need to be notified when anything is going on. 😉
It’s still a good price. Still at 24.50 an ounce and will only go up from here. Get it while you can….
I have a gold eagle quarter oz that I was lucky to get when gold was $1,377 an oz. It took about a week to actually have it in my hand. Gold has risen about $100 an oz since then. I got mine from JM Bullion, online. I’m going to keep ordering silver eagles for as long as I can.
I’ve been getting little 1 gram silver “bars” from amazon.com, as well as silver for jewelry making. There is, so far, no delay for these.
PTmama,
I think we all wanted to buy more sooner but life always gets in the way. I buy between $20-40 of metals a week when the bills allow, but you can not buy at spot value right now. When I first started buying it was spot +$0.85. now it is spot +$1.50 and going higher.
I got my new Ruger breakdown 10-22 today and there was no ammo to buy at Big-5. They got their delivery and were cleaned out in an hour with a strict 5 box limit (and only 1 brick of .22 per buyer). There was one pissed off kid when I got there for the gun, and he was on the phone and told me “They have no .38 or 9MM ammo in here” and he was frantically looking for some by calling around.
I told him if he was going to panic buy something, always be the first to panic, not the last…..
He didn’t like that, but it is true.
Also, I was talking to some friends who are still in law enforcement and they were telling me that some agencies have cancelled qualification of firearms because they can’t replenish their stock of ammo. So while the feds might be buying, the local departments are starving for ammo.
Also, they quit using .45 +P ammo in the Glock 21’s because they were causing too much damage and breaking the guns long term. That is just an FYI….
Keep your powder dry,
JJsan
JJ, our local Academy has people lining up(on the average) 1-1&1/2 hours before they open to buy ammo. Here in west Texas when Academy has ammo, the prices are still good but we are allowed only 3 boxes per day per cal.
I love my 30-30 and was ready to buy one for the wife (she now can handle the cal.) but even 30-30s are selling every time they come in. Up till 6 months ago Academy couldn’t sell them.
Not really ptmama, price has stayed relatively the same.
I am not buying the story that physical silver is low…..they just say that so they didn’t have to adjust to market silver prices. The crony capitalist lie of suply/demand is old bullshit…..they are just greedy bastards
BJ I’m with you. But someone help me get my head around this. I don’t think you can fool supply and demand. Ammo proves this to be true, you can get any kind of ammo, if you want to Pay the Price. Now I can see, not holding paper gold and paper silver, but mining stocks are a horse of a different color, so why are mining stocks at a 52 week low when the rest of the market is at an all time high, especially if gold and silver are suppose to be in short supply, if physical gold and silver are in short supply, I would think these mining companies would be working overtime. I understand that the market is a bubble only because of all the fiat currency that is being pumped into it by the Feds, but can’t believe there is a shortage of physical gold and silver. Trekker Out. Born Free, Die Free!
I find it interesting that JPM gold vault dropped 65% today. It will get really interesting if holders of paper gold come a calling tomorrow. Just curious as to where all that gold went to? JPM hasn’t seen this drop, since 2009. Will it explode to new highs or will the fed be able to contain the precious metal awhile longer?
There is silver out there, you just have to monitor the sites and be alerted.
Hold onto the physical and never deposit in a safe deposit box, unless it’s in your very own domicile.
B Aware, B Awake, B Alive
“Safe deposit box” is a classic oxymoron.
I just ordered a Yamaha tri-fuel generator. When I questioned the two week lead time quoted on line, I was told”It will ship in a few days. That message is because we were flooded with orders aftwer hurricane Sandy.” She laughed when I commented that waiting until AFTER a hurricane was like running to Home Despot for a fire extinguisher when you noticed a grease fire.
ptmama,
Silver and gold both have been more expensive in the recent past than they are now. Check the prices at http://www.goldprice.org.
Right now, APMEX has Silver Eagles and .1 oz, .25 oz., .5 oz., and 1 ounce Gold Eagles in stock. You could check JM Bullion, SilverSaver, and other vendors, as well. Some are kicking the can over to the mints, or otherwise placing blame. But you can still get silver at a decent price.
You are correct, but I believe that if the stock market tanks, prices will skyrocket.
Failing to plan is planning to fail, you all knew it was coming, now it is cruch time so forget the things that are now “unobtainium” like gold, silver, and ammo and focus on the things you can still get.
Silver has dipped in price in the past week or so. I suspect is is down because the stock market is way up. Be careful though, if the market takes a hit, the price will rebound very quickly…
Bambi said today at the Bushitler library dedication “Today is a special day for our DEMOCRACY.”
Do we have a “democracy”?????
Fuck Obama. Fuck Democrats. Fuck Republicans.
Now that’s some scary shit if you are a spook monitoring the internets. Because it means there is one more citizen that has broken out of his mental chains.
i dont think our gov. has an ammo shortage,,
snake
I said this a few months ago and I’ll say it again, shear demand does not explain the ammo shortage. It’s got to be in the supply chain side. No one really knows for sure, but I’m willing to bet that the ruling elite have had powder production sown up for decades.
Go to the Manuf blogs they all say that it’s not the Gov doing it. Hornaday (SP) says they are producing much more than ever before and less than 5% is going to ‘GOV. CCI says they are producing 4 million rds of 22 a day, 7 days, and are still way behind. You people all wanted the sheeole to wake up; well I’m afraid some of them have and this is the result. Shortly it will be the same on Storage food batteries. You should try to keep the fools asleep, at least until you have yours.
…’cuz a two-billion-round bet on domestically designated ammo says they know what’s coming.
Gold Leader standing by.
Do we have a “democracy”?????
Nope–it is/was supposed to be a republic.
I think both those lost to facism.
I personally think we will be invaded by another country, and at the same time there will be disorder and chaos. People with all the weapons and ammo will deplete their supplys and the US government will take over from there.
Child there are only 7 Billion people on earth. You think that’s going to deplete our ammo you been asleep to long
No! We live in a constitutional republic, at least for as long as we can keep it.
We kept it for roughtly a hundred years. WWI was when things really started to slip.
An easy way to remember:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Every time I hear a politician spout off about “democracy” it makes me sick.
From a positive point of views these shortages mean that more people are prepping and getting ready. From a negative point it means that the government and those with the mass funds to do so are buying up the markets for all the rest of us, meaning that prices will skyrocket and limits on what we can obtain. With ammunition this especially stinks. Wait until this starts with basic neccessities.
Something is coming, you look at the alertness of everything, even the idiot non-preppers are feeling something. Now is the time to get ready if you have not done so already. For the prepper/survivalist finalizing everything soon, real soon. NOW, before it is too late.
Honestly, now that the prices are rising again, it means that the Central Banks who dumped all the paper gold and silver and thus caused the recent drop have now loaded up on physical PM’s at a lower price.
Now they are driving up the prices and locking out the common person from buying.
If you haven’t gotten yours yet, you will soon be outta luck.
Don’t worry my friends there will be much ammo and weapons on the bodies who lay dead in the streets… Why has no one thought of this?
Not much use if one of those bodies is yours. When the thunder starts no one’s immune to lightning.
Not saying we don’t train to be one of the ones standing. But even the crappiest gun wielding by the complete neophyte gets lucky once in a while.
We were waiting for you to tell us. 🙂
Yep, yep, yep, yep, says Ducky, the little dinosaur.
This week, I added N95 masks, bear repellent, and a tomato masher for canning juice to my list…strange how those canning things just disappear, huh??
This is not panic buying as in 1993 or 1986, this is American citizens buying everything they can in preparation for war.
Is it true that 22 cal is going for $0.50 per round ??? I’ve not seen that anywhere.. but I haven’t been looking very hard either. Can anyone confirm ?
I wouldn’t know because I have not seen any .22 on the shelf since December.
I told folks to buy Silver at $4.oz– No one listened.
I told folks to buy gold at $300.oz– No one listened.
I told folks to buy ammo when cheap– No one listened.
I told folks to buy canned goods now–No one listened.
I tell folks today I’m done telling them anymore.
outwest
i have done the same thing for over 5 years. people laughed at me. they are not laughing now. now they come up to me and ask what can they do. i usually just say sorry you are on your own because i don’t have time to help you get into the lifeboat now. I have however taken some from the herd that seemed to be worthy and held meetings with them
sounds familiar
I saw one site online about a month ago that had a box priced at $3 a round for .22LR. Plain old target plinking rounds – and they sold out.
About 50-100$ range for a brick of 500 here in oregon
Same ball park figures here on the east coast mountains.
I talked to the man at the small business for feed and some hunting supplies that I cater to. We buy as much as we can from him because it is a small family owned business and they are nice people just trying to make a living. He says he sells out all 22 ammo the same day he gets it, and that is with a limit of five 50 rd boxes. If he gets any 500 rd bricks, the limit is two.
He sells the bricks for 40 bucks and sold them last year for 20. He says i can make more but I cater to my customers because they cater to me, and I’m not caring about gouging people.
His cost has only went up a few bucks, but he has to sell for more since everyone else is. He said one man offered him 50 dollars for every brick that he had. When the owner turned him down, the man got mad. When the owner asked him why he was willing to pay so much, the man responded; “I can sell every brick I get, down at the big city flea market, for 100 dollars each”.
There is part of the double trouble problem. The people with money, can make more money, because more people are just waking up to what is coming and they are panic buying. Those that don’t even care about shooting are buying a little 22 pistol or rifle and want as many rounds “stockpiled” before SHTF.
One of my operatives was at a gun show in central Okla last weekend. Bricks of .22 going for $90 to $100. He called to ask me, I said ‘Pass’
Besides, maybe we can just melt down some of that cheap silver into bullets. At 24.50 oz it might be cheaper! Plus it kills commies, goons, zombies…and Werewolves. A truly multi-function ammo!
Side note: Heard they busted a guy today in Mass. He had a truckload of pressure canners. Obviously a smuggler, maybe even a demestic terrorist. Bring in the drones…..
Sorry..this is so funny!!
http://dedham.patch.com/articles/williams-sonoma-pulls-pressure-cookers-off-shelves-in-massachusetts-4f18ea7b
I saw a pawn shop sign–“We buy ammo”.
I have a friend who just sold a 5,000 round case of .22 ammo for $1,400.00 @ 28 cents a round. People were begging to buy more. It wasn’t to long ago you could buy .223 for 28 cents a round.
If you really want to find out what is happening with ammo by the second, plug in your caliber at gunbot.net
If you plan on trying to buy online, I’m told it is a good idea to have your account set up in advance.
@ oUCH –
Sorry amigo, I really can’t quote or confirm prices for you, quite simply because there isn’t ANY .22 lr to be found on the shelves in ANY of the stores in my local area!!! I have never seen things this tight in my 64 years here on this earth.
My coin dealer is quite simply unapologetic regarding the premiums he is asking (and getting)for physical gold and any silver that he has left in stock. He couldn’t replace any of his inventory at these ‘new, low’ paper prices. None of his suppliers were selling for those prices.
They beat the crap out of PM prices for the last week. Today gold is up $36.70 & silver is up $1.24 at the close.
Soon boys and girls ….. very soon I’m afraid. God Bless and good luck to all.
At the last gun show, I saw a guy selling a 500 round brick of CCI .22 for $90 and he got it….
Thanks everyone.. when it hits $2 a bullet, I think I’ll cash a little in..
lol..agreed. Maybe I’ll dig those old Federal 22 short “rat killers” from out of the back of the safe if the price is that good.
Mel Tappan the father of survivalism once said that .22 ammo would go for a dollar a round when the SHTF. We are getting close.
There is only one way to “cash them in”
Im not going to give any of mine up to the fiat dollar..ever
JJsan: The late-comers to prepping are panicing and it’s costing all of us. I belong to a private gun club and just bought 2 buckets (1400 rounds) of Remington .22 for $62.00 a bucket. The thing is that each one of us had to know the date and time the club was receiving delivery and be there.
About the only places online with 22lr in stock are selling 500 rnd bricks from $150 to $200. The walmarts in my area aren’t gouging like that, problem is, a line forms at 6:00 am waiting for them to put product on the shelves at 7:00 am. It’s gone within 20 minutes. Crazy. I’ve been lucky to get 50 rnds boxes of 9mm at cabelas by ordering online when it shows up in stock, $15 a box. Try looking on gunbot dot com to see how crazy it is.
Bill
Bill J, quick correction… it’s gunbot.net
No offense intended and I have no affiliation with them. It’s a site I check daily to see if I can get anything needed. They also have tabs for magazines and reloading supplies if anyone is interested.
Molon Labe
Whoops, yea , you’re right. Thanks for catching that.
I recently received an ad in my email from a well-known ammo and firearm retailer. They were running a special on .40 FMJ (not JHP). “Hurry now and get a box of 50 rounds for $100”. $2/round – and yet I imagine that someone paid it.
For years my wife thought I was crazy for buying ammo from big 5 everytime it went on sale.
Probably have 10k rounds of 22LR. But lots of other calibers also.
She would say why do you need all that ammo…..I always said because someday it will be hard to get.
She doesn’t think I’m so crazy now…..
She did think the same thing about the silver I bought also……now you know that story too.
I can tell you on armslist and craigslist a box of 500-550 of 22lr is going from $60-90 a box. And I have not seen a box in stores for 4 months.
Couple of weeks ago four bricks (550 rds.) of regular Winchester .22 LR fetched $779.00 on gunbroker. Then again Palmetto armory had Federal bricks of .22 LR ammo for 24.95 each which were gone very soon.
check out luckygunner.com
http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/22lr/
Some shops have bricks of Fiocchi Match .22LR for $95. That’s the highest retail price around here. Some show ‘dealers’ are trying to get $100 or more on bricks of Federal or Winchester, but they’re mainly trying and not getting. Anyone paying 50 cents a round is an idiot, it’s available for 20 cents, not in quantity, but it’s available.
yes, just checked gun broker, rem. thunderbolt 500 rds. for $75. Rem golden bullet 525 rnd. box for $93.
look at gunbot.net..ridiculous prices for 22lr from multiple sellers
just got back from my FFL dealer and he has 22lr. 100rds for about .15cents a round. He also just got in a colt commander and colt govnt model in as well. He just told me that he’s getting a shipment of 9mm. Glad he’s my hookup!
Went into my local Gander Mountain last week. They had a large amount of AR magazines, handguns/mags, ammo, lots of shotguns, but no AR-15’s.
I’m not sure if this is just hype or something else?
Tried to buy a Carlson “breecher” choke for my Mossberg 835 shotgun from Brownells. They said that they were backordered. Called Carlson chokes and got one sent out for next week no problem.
Ordered some parts from Mossberg, also no problem getting them, so who knows?
I’d invest in a good durable sling shot for small game in the event things get tight around the cupboard….just sayin !
@ Anonymous. Also there are some really nice air rifles with just about the same velocity of a smaller .177 pellet as the common .22 LR, about 1150-1250 feet per second. I was looking at one the other day at walmart that was going for about $120. Ammo is dirt cheap with air rifles and they are far more quiet, and will take down even a rabbit at some distance if you are a good shot.
2 fluffy rats ( squirrels ) just today, 4 for the week.
You should look over at Pyramydair.com. They have air rifles that can drop larger game. There is the Sam Yang .50 cal that can do it. Today’s air rifles are nothing like the Daisy and Crossman crap of my youth. Serious weapons these days for the silent sniper.
I personally have a Benjamin Marauder in .22 with 10 round magazines. With high velocity pellets you can achieve speeds of up to 1500 FPS. I put a 16×50 scope on it and can smash bottles at 200 yards with it. As for accuracy, I use the Beeman copper washed pellets and can drive in dimes at 50 yards. I can easily take out a rabbit’s skull at 100 yards with it; yes, it is that good.
A lot of people like to bash on the air rifles. These are usually the same people that have never used some of the newer high velocity PCP (Pre-Charged Pneumatics) rifles. If you’re looking for a solid alternative during the ammo drought, seriously consider getting one. Mine put me out $800.00, but considering the quality, accuracy and functionality, it was worth every penny.
Yea, JR, I’ve seen the guys on TV killing coyotes at long distances with those air rifles.
Are the precharged air tubes very expensive? I guess if you can stock up on plenty, then the short supply ammo thing is of no worry.
I stocked up on a bunch of Black powder stuff a while back. We do have a good supply of all ammo and reloading supplies since 2009, but i would like to save all my “cheap” 22’s for a real SHTF scenario. If i could get into magnum air gunning at a reasonable cost, I would definitely look into it, since we love to shoot and the pump Crossman doesn’t give too much of a challenge anymore, much less a thrill.
You can fill the air chamber with a bicycle pump style filler that pumps the pressure to 3000 PSI. The only things you need to stock are pellets, cleaning supplies and a few O-ring kits. The PCP simply means that you can carry enough air for multiple shots before having to refill. My Marauder can fire about 40 consistent shots before a refill is required.
the weight of the bullet or pellet along with the velocity and distance(loses velocity) determines the amount of energy for the kill. If there is a 40 grain pellet at 1000+ fps, that would be quite a good survival gun. Is there?
Yeah, there are many rifles that can do that or higher. I see where you’re going, the average .22lr cartridge. In pellets, you may want to step to .25 to match the total energy of a .22lr cartridge.
If it’s the bremans don’t buy it. It won’t hold its zero.
So now adding a BB pistol to my list isn’t so crazy??
I’ve been stocking up on more broadheads for my bow, half dozen arrows every payday. Silent kill.
Barnett has a good one, been there, done that.
They have to store all that ammo somewhere so when our economy collapses and the UN troops come to help, they’ll have something to shoot with. I’m kidding.
Or am I?

Yep, a few years ago i was thinking i was stupid for buying primers in bulk, now not so much, gotta get the bullet casting gear, when i use up my bullets i have a feeling there wont be any, sort of a trip that things are so wonky right now, be interesting to see how it all plays out.
God save the republic and bless us all. (Were gonna need it!)
Cheaper Than Dirt still has 5.56; 7.62×39; 7.62×51 and 7.62×54. The price is rising as I type. The 7.62×54 appears plentiful and cheap for those of you who own a Mosin Nagant.
If you’re needing any ammo that’s imported milsurp, pay any price and do it now. The Dictator is directing his orcs to stop all imports. Guns, parts, accessories, ammo, everything.
Great article! Time to focus on making sure the family is safe, secure and fed. Still waiting on my silver bars from JM. When I ordered on the 17th there was no “delay”. Checked a couple days later and it said 5-10 delay. Checked again today and it’s 15-20 days. Feeling like I got “sold ahead”.
Sent them a note asking for delivery time frame. I’m fine just cancelling the order and calling silver dead just like ammo.
All we have left is FOOD WATER MEDICINE. FOOD WATER MEDICINE. FOOD WATER MEDICINE. Best of luck bothers and sisters; see you on the other side.
nito
Gainsvillecoins had a 5-7 day delay when I ordered (missed the low by only $20) and shipped on the 5th. It was gold though, not silver.
I called MONEX today about obtaining some silver 1 oz coins. They claim to have Austrian Philharmonics in stock at approximately $3.95 OVER SPOT (i.e. steep). That is inclusive of commission and delivery/shipping. So you can get 100 ozs for about $2800. Perhaps that will seem cheap in the coming days/months. That said, it still seems like a steep premium to pay for the privilege of owning silver and to make money on silver. Maple leafs and eagles are nominally MORE expensive than Philharmonics–supposedly because of minting costs. Hard to make sense of all this. . . . .,
That premium is a bit high but in this market having it in stock is what counts.
If you can get it under $30 (full cost) it will probably turn out to be a good move.
Just put it away and wait.
NOBODY needs gold or silver. I’ve always said this was a crappy investment and a lousy place to put your money. Recent weeks demonstrate this fact for those still brainwashed.
The same reasons to NOT buy this useless metal still remain: price manipulation, confiscation, difficult to sell, limited buyers, no business will accept (try buying food or fuel with it), cannot be used by the owner for anything in reality, unpractical, difficult to convert to money that is accepted, must time market correctly to sell, which makes it REALLY useless as an ‘investment’, etc.
Don’t believe everything you hear about the “ammo shortage”, it is still available. I tried to sell 40 cases of PMC .223 and had limited interest.
Can’t get rid of my 200 ounces of silver either.
Frankly, I think all these articles are nothing more then hype and propaganda to get people to buy stuff from advertisers that support this site. It’s disingenuous to misrepresent the real facts for personal gain.
Example: ammo is for sale on the forums I visit, so are plenty of guns. Went to the large 3 day gun show here and dealers had cases of ammo available and tons and tons of guns. They’re NOT flying off the table as being reported. Prices are high, but they’re “always high” at shows, nothing really new there.
My first-hand experience is that these stories about shortages are all basically bullshit. Same with the stories surround the “billion rounds” being purchased by the Fatherland. I looked into this personally, researched out the contracts and the funding. Not worried one bit about “martial law” or “takeover” or any such nonsense, because it’s all bullshit.
@John:
I’ll take that useless silver off your hands for the price of shipping. Just trying to help a Brother in need.
Which just makes you a thief.
You think you’re smart to make such statements. Anybody that publicly declares himself a thief is worthy of derision.
I’m thinking BA is making a funny. Geez John…. Get real!
Plus one!!
U stupid bitch
@John:
If you send your silver to me for the price of shipping, that establishes a contract between you and I. I would receive the product with your consent. How is that stealing?
I thought you original post made you sound stoopid. The response post confirms, good day asswipe.
……what a dumb cunt………BA.
Yes ammo can be bought. However, check walmart. There are shortages. The local police departments are not lying either. You can find plenty of ammo on ammoseekdotcom but who wants to pay 3-4 times what it was 4 months ago. Tried to find powder lately? Good luck. Spotty at best. Something is going on. You go ahead and not be worried. Good way to live and easy on the heart. However, I will continue to carry some worry about the direction of this badly beaten country with me each day.
Well John, WHAT were you asking for your 40 cases of 223…..
And Apmex buys silver every single day….they’re paying 50 cents above spot for plain jane generic rounds. So how is it you “can’t get rid of them” ?
And for the record, can you name ONE investment you don’t have to “time the market” to sell ??
Real Estate ?? ahahahahaaaaaaa
Stocks ?? ahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Bonds ?? ahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Savings Accounts ?? ( Do they REALLY count as an investment if you’re losing purchasing power every day ?? )
John, an INVESTMENT generally means a long term purchase. I bought silver 8 years ago at 6 bucks. I could sell it today ( and there are PLENTY of buyers ) for 25-30. That’s a 4x return in 8 years…..21% per year if you plug it into a financial calculator. You got any ‘investments’ that have done better than 21%/yr for the last 8 years ??
You know what silver is gonna do in the NEXT 8 years ? I suspect it’s going to 75-100/oz. Don’t believe me. Get rid of yours. Warren Buffet sold his at $9.
As for the article “Meanwhile, the takedown of paper gold and paper silver has unleashed an avalanche of “panic buying” of physical gold and physical silver all over the planet.”
I wouldn’t call it panic buying, I’d call it sale prices….and sale prices encourage buying.
PMs are not so much an investment nor are the really truly money but it is definitely an insurance policy to hedge against inflation and devalued currency.
J MHO
Your an idiot. Prices are always cheapest at gun shows. If you were not such a liar on all counts I would gladly take the silver and ammo off your hands at a fair price. But since nothing in your story is remotely true I will have to pass.
What distant planet are you visiting??? The gun shows are the absolute worst place to buy ammo right now!!!
Not any more they’re not. Gun shows are now full of newbies who don’t know what’s fair pricing and what’s not, and the sellers know it. I’ve quit going to gun shows altogether.
I never go to gun shows anymore to “get a deal”. There are some exceptions to this….but not many.
I go to gun shows to see…and maybe buy…stuff that I can’t normally find at my local gun shop or sporting goods store. Most gun shows have a broad range of vendors. Sometimes I just go so I can get a hands-on look at something that I end up buying off the Internet later (ebay or amazon)
If I’m looking for a deal on a firearm, I’ll check gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com….or another Internet forum that I visit regularly that has a classified section. And I have a nearby gun shop that I prefer to patronize. If I’m in the market for a new firearm, I generally try there first. I like patronizing local people. And I prefer the small gun shop to the big box stores.
Up here in Canada a box of 525 rounds of 22LR is still around $25 give or take.
Gold and silver are not investments, and they never have been. They’re money.
And one year ago I could get PMC X-TAC 55 gr for $285/1000 at local gun shows. For that price per case, I’ll take all 40 of yours.
You’re just another thief because you want benefit from a investment strategy that worked (versus all the hype about gold and silver that doesn’t work).
All you gold bugs think that you’re going to “save” your fiat money by buying gold or silver with FRN’s, or at least “hold your value”. Then when prices on something you REALLY can use (versus useless metal) you OBJECT (or demand you should have paid last years prices).
You people are fucking idiots, dumb as goddamned stumps, worthy of being fleeced and mislead because you can’t learn a damned thing. You can’t count either.
You should have bought something you could USE and that people WANT or NEED. Gold and silver have NEVER fit this requirement (and never will).
Gold is NOT money anymore, get that through your heads. Gold will NEVER be money again (ever).
Fiat money rules the day. They will NEVER give this up, it’s far too profitable for those that can do this. Nor will digital money ever be abandoned as long as computers exist (possibly as long as humans exist).
Gold is DEAD as money and has been since the 1970’s — this is why it will never be widely accepted again.
I am intimately familiar with gold’s history and even worked for a gold bullion seller for a time. I bought into the same hype you guys still do – until I learned my lesson.
It’s USELESS TO THE AVERAGE PERSON. We are not banks, or investment houses, we do not deal in exchange rates or have power over markets (but they do). For us, it is far, far better to buy (invest) in what you need, can dispose of, or hold onto that has practical value. You will have tens of millions of potential “customers” for such things, versus gold or silver which has limited outlets to get it converted into MONEY you can USE to buy the things you NEED.
They MYTH about Gold and Silver needs to DIE because people are being fleeced by these strategies as recent weeks have shown (not the first time this has happened either).
It’s NOT money. It will NEVER be money again. This is an obvious truth and despite the legendary status of gold or silver as money, it will never become money again.
Gold and silver only appeal to those that fall for it’s historical use as money, but those days are long gone, never to return. Money today is the currency people USE.
The whole “buy gold and hold” strategy is fatally flawed.
This guy must be one of obammys boys
To each his own scooter. Time will tell who’s right or wrong as it usually does.
As they say,
Eat Shit, A billion flys can’t be wrong. ;0)
You’re sorta of a dumb ass arn’t ya?
Yeah yeah yeah John…..so again, HOW MUCH WERE YOU ASKING for your 40 cases of 223 that nobody would buy ??
Hiya John. I wasn’t “objecting” to your foresight in buying desirable ammo or “demanding” any particular price; you indicated you were having trouble selling stuff, so I made you an offer. Not interested? No problem, bro. Maybe next time. No need for hostility.
But what makes you think we “stumps” didn’t already load up on that same stuff you did? I agree with you that anyone putting all their fiat into Au/Ag without getting all their other bases covered (water, food, heat/shelter, protection, skills, etc.) is setting themselves up for future problems. But jeez, there are better ways of making that point than screaming at folks.
Okay, Johnboy gold and silver is worthless, now what? Bitcoins? What skill do you and all your friends have that would interest me. What would you trade me for food? Just what I thought. You will be working for me and my friends.
John, could you define thief, seem you have made a lot false accusations, or you really don’t know what the word means. Now if you would like to know what a liar is, you could probably fill the bill.WASP
Hey everybody, welcome John, and his brilliant analysis. Let me get this straight: you have 40 cases of ammo, but don’t see any supply problems. You have silver and gold, unlike most of the sheeple population, but you think they are stupid to own, and you can’t find buyers.
Yeah, right…. Bullshit!.
You are a full of shit, don’t have shit moron troll. If all of your posts were sarcasm, maybe.
You idiots do make for interesting reading though. Comedy.
China, Russia, Saudi and their allies, that are building the BRICS Development bank, otherwise known as the ‘Dollar kill switch’, would disagree with you John…
It ain’t about what we Americans think anymore Johnboy…
geopolitics will determine what ‘money’ IS.
When that switch is thrown, your opinions will turn to dust…
America has become an import nation, what happens when people say to us, like they did to the ancient Romans;
“The color of your money is no good.”
@ John. The smart gold bulls are learning to speak Chinese. Premiums yesterday for physical gold purchases in Japan were $500 over spot for one ounce. Currency and money are two different things. Your comments tell those that know, that you don’t.
That’s funny. Utah passed a bill in 2011 recognizing gold and silver as legal tender and Indiana has a similar bill to be voted on in 2013. 5 or 6 others have language in the works.
Gold and Silver is / will be legal tender again soon.
@John….
I can’t remember when I’ve seen anyone so ignorant of history.
You can be the new poster child for the village idiot.
You do not have a clue what you are talking about.
Come back when you actually have something to contribute.
@John….
You’re either delusional….dumb….or a liar.
Take your pick.
I call buckshot on you been trying to get more ammo lately can’t find it

“I’ve always said this was a crappy investment and a lousy place to put your money. Recent weeks demonstrate this fact for those still brainwashed.”
As for me, anyone that completely ignores a 10 year advance to point to ‘recent weeks’ decline as gospel is NOT the idiot you wanna take financial advice from.
“Don’t believe everything you hear about the “ammo shortage”, it is still available. I tried to sell 40 cases of PMC .223 and had limited interest.”
how about telling how much you were asking for the 40 cases of PMC?
once you tell the price you were asking and they did not sell – then we will know if you are full of it or not.
(and is that really cases as in 40×1000 rounds or are you confusing boxes?)
They say they’re out of stock. Me thinks they don’t want to sell at these prices. Went to my local PM dealer, they had 5 10oz silvers on display and some SE’s. They were keeping the rest of the stock in the back when I asked for their 1oz rounds. (Southern Bullion for what it’s worth.)
Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Well can you blame them ? The paper pushers ran the spot price down, and left the dealers holding silver they paid in the 30 buck range, and people walk in and expect them to sell it at a loss ??
I’d either be “out of stock”, or simply put an 8 buck premium on it, and say “paper is 23, real is 31….which one you want ? “
I can blame them a bit, it is the business they are in and they should know to hedge their bets and not gouge customers. THAT is technically the reason for futures contracts (believe it or not).
@TnAndy…
I think you hit the nail on the head there…
I’ve been looking to get a little more silver. Don’t have money for a lot, so I was looking at a very small amount.
MOST of the online retailers are selling at a pretty good premium. For instance….latest spot price was about $24.00/oz. APMEX was charging a little over $31.00 for a 1oz. Eagle. So, that’s a $7.00 premium. BUT….you have a $12.50 shipping and handling charge. So, unless you are making a large order, you’re adding a significant “premium” to what you are paying. What really matters after all, is the TOTAL cost per oz.
Just for fun, I went on to Ebay and bid on a 1 oz. Eagle. I won the auction, but it cost me almost $35.00. (Free shipping on this by the way).
My point is, there IS some silver still available out there, but you are not going to get it anywhere near spot. You will probably end up paying $8-$10 over spot….maybe more.
In my opinion, this reflects the REAL market price for silver right now…..$35.00 or so per oz. The current paper price of silver means nothing. They are selling paper contracts on non-existent metal and are probably leveraged 100 to 1. If you bought a paper contract, I can just about guarantee you that they are not going to be able to deliver. At some point, it will be discovered that the emperor has no clothes, and it’s going to get real interesting.
I saw a youtube video recently where a guy was saying that it’s still possible to get silver at only a dollar or so over spot and with free shipping. So I went to one of the sites he suggested. Right….they only charge a dollar or two over spot, BUT….they didn’t have any available.
The REAL price for REAL physical silver has not gone down much if any from what it was a year or so ago. In fact….it’s gone up. I purchased 5 maple leafs at a gunshow this time last year and I got them for $30 each. A few months earlier, I purchased 10 eagles AT SPOT. I went to a gun show two weeks ago, and the only PM’s seller there was buying at above spot and selling what few Eagles he had at around $45.00.
Well, let’s turn up the juice and see what shakes loose… http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/04/25/reps-challenge-dhs-ammo-buys-say-agency-using-1000-more-rounds-per-person-than/
I’m just sayin’…at least it’s getting some attention, for what it’s worth.

Highly under-rated ammo for lethality. Take one to the cranium or between a rib and it will be be a slow but sure death. YouTube the lethality of .22lr and watch some of the experiments conducted by average folks, at distance even. One example is eight layers of sweatshirt, four layers of denim, a rib roast then rump roast, then through the sheet of plywood behind all of it at 50 yards. May need to find a place to hide while the threat bleeds out (or just keep pulling the trigger), but not a round to be trifled with.

Howdy, BI, and yes, you’re right again. Last time I bought any .22lr was right before christmas when I bought my little Bersa Thunder .22 and it was $25 per brick at that time; bought 4 bricks. There’s been a few sporadic ammo shipments of ammo in my region since then, but I can never get to the place when the ammo truck arrives. I’ve been practicing in my backyard on weekends since February with a .177 pellet pistol to conserve my stock of .22. at least the CO2 cartridges and pellets are still in good supply; got to get restocked this weekend. I feel something’s coming really soon and we may soon start seeing shortages of food and other commodities. that’s when we’ll know that balloon is about ready to go. I scored 1600 rounds of 22 long rifle at our local Gander Mt about a month ago for 119.00. They had quite a few in stock and I’m pissed I didn’t get 2 or 3. I stop in frequently and haven’t seen even a 50 round box. No 9mm, no 45 and no 223. I’m really glad I stocked up a couple years ago. I also have a really nice 22 cal pellet gun which is very accurate. Won’t kill a bad guy but it would make him pissed. Maybe a direct hit in the eyeball would slow em down. Great for squirrels and chippies. I guess chippie stew would be better than nothing. I’m all set with PM’s too. We have a new Aldi’s in town and I really like the place. Prices are incredible and I swear the food is the same and the expensive brands just different label. We tried a taste test last Sunday with there Corned Beef Hash. Exact same stuff as the 3.00 a can for half the cost. Same with everything we’ve tried. Way cheaper than wallys or sams.
God Bless you all

Bill…welcome to generic food world. Aldis is my favorite place to shop. Yep–can’t beat their prices.
Beef stew, chicken dumplings, and their tuna has been cheapest anywhere for a long time.
I don’t even check the weekly circulars any longer–why bother??
Aldi’s will beat most store’s prices.
I can’t understand why anyone would want to buy silver or gold. I think at this point it would be smarter to buy a chicken than gold. Do we really think starving people are going to barter for precious metals?
Besides, for you like minded Christian folk out there, when they re-boot the financial system after a collapse, it’s gonna be Revelation 13:16-17……I think.
Revelation 13:16-17
King James Version (KJV)
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
The only way around that is Barter and stay healthy otherwise your dead.
How do I pay my property tax? County Treasurer won’t take a 100 bushel of corn or 5 tons of hay.WASP
…when it all comes down he might…goods in hand beat the heck outta unredeamable fiat and even the local extortion enforcer knows that….otherwise rob a bank(for some paper 😉 or dont pay them tyrants anything and take your chances…personally I wouldnt wanna be trying to collect them fees after it all blows up…risky job to say the least.
For one thing, Dogs and racoons won’t be eating your pm’s.
My brother had five nice hens and a rooster. He lives on the other side of the mountain and about a month ago he said something tore down his chicken lot, which was well constructed, and killed all five. It/they ate only a small portion of the meat.
As soon as he told me I went to my deer/game feeder and took the photo card out and in my amazement the culprits where captured walking by the camera the very night of the kill. Three Great Pyrenees dogs. He is still trying to find the owner.
Damn coons killed the previous three hens he had.
I’d say chickens would be a good investment “if” one were to stay vigilant and have a well constucted house and wire lot, or live in a place where thieves, varmints, and free roaming dogs were not a problem.
I helped a neighboring farmer chase off dogs that were taking down grown steers and some of his black Angus cattle .
We shot a beagle, short haired pointer and a group of mutts .
Dogs roaming will kill about anything .
We caught the pack taking out a heifer who had just bore a newborn calf .

Well, if anything, you could drop some of your silver in your water supply to keep it drinkable, like pioneers coming west.
The Tribulation doesn’t begin until the confirming of the covenant with Many, Daniel 9:27, after the Antichrist is revealed, 2nd Thes. 2:3. I believe we are experiencing the ‘Birth pangs’ ,Matthew 24:8.
sorry for the fat thumb was supposed to be thumb up
We are in tribulation now.
There are three stages of the locust:
Locust Stages: 1.Gnawer (slowly nibbling or eroding away at) 2. Swarmer ( to evolve with ability to fly and cover large areas) 3. Devourer ( ability to prey upon and eat up ravenously)
The first stage began with the downfall of Satan, but in terms of relation with end times it got ramped up at the beginning of the 20th century around 1913.
I believe we began the second stage in 2008. Not only in America, but around the world. For example; look at Spain: Full of sin, leaders bankrupting the economy and causing the unemployment rate to skyrocket. I think their jobless rate is about 30% now. The USA is fast approaching the era that Spain is seeing now. Then there is Greece.
When the “third stage” begins, the arrival of Antichrist and his evil angels has already past. I truly believe the big war in the middle east that causes the deaths of millions, and possibly billions, will set the stage for their entrance. Since their time has been “shortened”, we only have “five” months (time of the locust) left, before the true Christ returns.
Time will tell for sure; but my bet is on the next set of blood moons with the beginning set for next April and following thru September 2015.
If my calculations and ideas are correct, then the final stage, the “devourer” stage will begin and end with the Devourer’s time on terra firma.
No pre-trib rapture, or “flying away” to escape tribulation like the ignorant preachers preach. No where in Gods word does He tell us of a secret return of Christ, and then another return “seven years” later.

And by then its tooooo late!
I liken it to when we have a tsunami warning over here, they sound the alarm and everybody runs for the stores and gas stations, buncha dummies,

“I think at this point it would be smarter to buy a chicken than gold.”
Gold (and silver) is money. Real money.
The advantage of money is you can store excess that you have produced and later use it to buy things you need. That is the reason money was invented, and why gold/silver have done an excellent job of serving as money for thousands of years…..and there have been countless SHTF situations all over the planet in those thousands of years.
Chickens, while good to have some, require feed, water, care, and so on. Eggs are a perishable commodity…..they have a definite shelf life, so if you have more than you can eat, you MUST find a market. If everybody took your advice and bought chickens, the price of eggs would be below the cost of feed ( heck, I bought 4 bags of laying mash the other day…. eggs are almost there anyway….ahahahaa).
But lets say I sell my eggs for one silver dime per dozen. I can store the dimes, and later use them to buy a chainsaw chain I need ( the saw shop doesn’t take eggs ).
Money…..a great concept.
No, it is not “real money” and has not been real money for decades.
Despite what the Constitution says, real money today is the fiat money that is printed on paper. You cannot spend gold or silver anywhere (nobody will accept it).
Anybody that doubts this FACT should go out and TRY to spend their gold and silver — and see what happens.
Doctors won’t take it. Supermarkets won’t take it. Feed stores won’t take it. Gas pumps won’t take it. The list is endless of where you CAN’T spend your so-called “money”.
You cannot “buy a chainsaw” either with gold or silver. This is a MYTH.
The chicken can lay you eggs. Eggs you can hatch. You have more chickens. You have more eggs. You can eat the chickens and the eggs. You cannot do either of these things with the gold or silver.
You sir, are stupid.
Had some work done on my base station, bought a Galaxy DX 979, peaked & tuned…all paid with silver eagles. It depends on the seller. Emergency Essentials was taking silver and gold the last I saw.
Gosh Fred….I guess my dentist was stupid when he took a $10 gold eagle ( c. 1880, worth 600 FRNs at the time ) for an new crown I needed that would have cost me 800FRNs.
I sold a set of batteries to a guy that paid me with one gold Krugerrand.
I bought a piece of equipment using new Gold Eagles.
I bought a bunch of 9mm bullets from a guy on the internet, and paid him in silver rounds.
Fred, maybe YOU can’t buy anything with gold and silver, but that may simply be because you haven’t tried.
There are a LOT of folks out there that will accept it in payment.
The point about chickens is you can raise anything, but (assuming you’re any good at it) at SOME point you get an excess….which you must trade or sell. Trade is clunky…..that’s yet another reason money was invented, to set standard values on things.
But you’re probably right…..I am stupid for trying to educate an idiot.
🙂
WRONG FRED! My doctor and dentist will both take it, Our restaurant will take it, Just about anyone who realizes the value of gold or silver will trade for it. That’s the facts Jack!!!
interesting , I have talked with several Docs, and gold and silver were acceptable as payment.
Your opinion is for shit. Read my post above about the BRICS Development bank, aka The Dollar kill switch…
It only matters what the Chinese think now…
We, have become an empty shell, barking out orders and everybody laughing at us.
When the switch is thrown, the military won’t be able to buy gas anywhere in the world… they will have a hard time getting home, much less waging war. Just wait Freddie boy… your precious paper will not even make good toilet paper.
This is the history of fiat money, and fiat has never failed… to fail.
“Despite what the Constitution says, real money today is the fiat money that is printed on paper. You cannot spend gold or silver anywhere (nobody will accept it).”
BWAAA HAHAHAHAHA, and you’re calling someone else stupid. LOL.
I would respectfully disagree on your view of chickens or eggs .
I have had two flocks of hens .
Have traded fresh eggs for many different things over the years .
And always had plenty of fresh chicken to eat .
And mine were free range and fed themselves most of the time .
Don’t guess you understand much on bartering .
NOMI
Mission
NOMI,
I completely understand barter. Have you had any luck bartering eggs for a propane delivery ? Or a new set of tires ? Barter works on a small scale, and local ( try buying some oil filters on line with eggs )….IF you can find someone that needs your eggs. But barter is clunky, which, again, is why money was invented…..to save the value of your eggs for another time, a time well past their shelf life.
AND what happened if you 2 flocks turned into 4, then 6, then 20? At what point do you pass your need for eggs and meat ??
I’m not saying don’t raise chickens….we do…and there is a need for that…..but there is also a need for money…..real money….not the stuff the govt can print up and devalue overnight.
(and BTW free range chickens here are called “Coyote Bait” 🙂 )
@ Tn
Nope . Never bartered eggs for large items or tried .
Have bartered larger items .
Traded a wrecked VW motor for a set of tires once .
Traded a flock of chickens ready to slaughter for a Shetland pony for my oldest .
Yes, there does need to be a system of portable goods to exchange .
But gold or silver is not the only gig in the show .
Just sayin ….
And my Weineraner killed every coyote that I did not with my rifle .
I don’t recall ever losing a single hen to one in ten plus years .
If you got coyotes, you need a better trained dog, in my humble opine .
Or need to aim a rifle better .
NOMI
Mission
If were to the point of bartering for stuff, we most likely wont be worried about propane fillups or big stuff anyway, will be more like 2 dozen eggs for a couple pounds of rock salt, or a hen for a box of 45ACP ammo, practical stuff, if you need $ we trade our big stuff, like that old mossberg slider and a box of shells for 10 silver 1ozrounds worth 250$ each
You know what time it is……

I had to check, so I called around, NO .22LR anywhere. That is freaken scary. I mean when you see shortages like this in a pro gun state like here, SHTF has begun.
Can you imagine the shelves cleaned off without food, I can, and that is why I cobstantly harp to anyone out there that has not prepared, do so now, RIGHT NOW.
I did not live during WW2, but this was much the way it was to start off that war, shortages. Whatever is driving this, it is REAL. I mean what better way to help disarm people than to cause shortages and panic buying. Then the government passes some whacked out law that says that you can only have X number of any caliber ammo in your possession. While many people would not obey this, the law would still be ready to be used to take away 2nd. Amendment laws one person at a time.
I was hoping that a bunch of people got wise and were stocking up and this was the reason for the shortages. I think though there is a more insiduos undertone here by our “friend” the guv’ment. Too many things are happening right now: Syria and the chemical weapons, the terrorist attacks, North Korea, the economy and precious metal chaos, the failure of BO’s gun control, yes the geophysical state of the New Madrid and San Andreas faults, crazy fluctuations in money, SOMETHING WE ARE NOT BEING TOLD ABOUT.
Without being an alarmist, but like the signs before a major earthquake happens are there, there are plenty of issues that point to a bad moon rising. For the past month I and others have felt some serious nervousness that one day soon we are going to witness one domino after another falling, maybe even minutes or hours apart from each other. If you can’t buy ammo right now, there are also some nice other items like fuel containers and fuel to go along with it. Can’t go wrong with some nice barter items like some nice alcohol (booze)or a few cases of toilet paper. Not a bad idea right now.
Canned meats! Veggies ya can grow, meat.. Not so easy and you need the protein, contrary to popular vegetarian belief not all proteins are created equal!
Been canning meat all winter, especially the chicken breast that were purchased on sale @.99 cents per lb.
I don’t consume much pork anymore but i do use sausage to make my gravy. We bought up six lbs. on sale and i canned it all in half pints. Three days ago, I was given five lbs of fresh, homemade livermush. Set to can it all up today in 4 oz. jars.
Went trout fishing tuesday and had not had much luck lately, so the little woman and i have been craving grilled trout for a while. We found a little “honey hole” but required a two mile hike. My first early morning cast and i hooked into a 4 lb. 19 inch rainbow.
We wanted to smoke it then can it, but our cravings were too much. Slow grilled it while basting in melted butter with garlic, salt and pepper. Toooooo’ good.

Shul Cancels Pamela Geller — But Fails To Take Stand
By Nechama Liss-Levinson

It was after 11 p.m. yesterday that I first heard the news that my synagogue, the Great Neck Synagogue, had announced the cancellation of a speaking engagement by Pamela Geller, founder of Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), described as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. I breathed a great sigh of relief. I quickly stopped writing the piece I was working on about how my heart was broken by the intransigence of the synagogue and its leadership in confronting a moral challenge. http://desertpeace.wordpress.com/2013/04/12/bella-ciao-to-islamophobia/
So wait.
The fedgov is buying up ammunition IN EVERY CALIBER known to man?
Even the weird calibers?
Not bloody likely.
I mean the contracts could explain 9mm, .40 S&W, .556, MAYBE .45 ACP. That’s about it.
What about all the other stuff?
.25 cal?
.30 Carbine?
.32 cal?
I mean… I doubt that very much but I could be wrong.
But it could be that the resources (copper, lead, brass) and tooling, labor, are going to just the calibers you mention. If there is not a big demand for .270, .243 they probably put it on the back burner.

Sitting here thinking about this last comment of yours saying there is something we are not being told …
Reckon this might be linked to the sudden flight delays supposedly caused by the furloughs of air traffic controllers??

@ 22Mission. You know when I think of air travel being a problem I immediately think about cargo rather than people. There is a tremendous amount of goods that is shipped via air. I can remember after 9/11 how the planes were grounded and it started to hurt businesses and especially the mail services. If you right about the air waves then we all have a problem. Lose the major communications of the country, because so much is now tied into the electronic world, this country could come to an almost standstill position. I use to watch Spiderman and I always would enjoy that spider sense of something coming. Right now my senses are near 9 to 9.5 on a chart from 1-10. If that means anything.
I’m in Houston.
My local bullion dealer is still seeing people cashing in silver. In the past two weeks I’ve proudly purchased another $4,000 in silver ounces (generics and some backdated eagles) and the dealer premium only pushed it up to about $26.60. When I mentioned that some online selleres were hiking their premiums, the salesguy looked at eBay and found eagles were selling there for some $34-$36.
I’m finding handgun ammo at all the local retailers, but NO target ammo. Really strange.
Call a coin/ bullion dealer and tell them you have some silver you want to sell. The offer will be as much UNDER spot as the retail is OVER spot. IF there was really that much physical demand, wouldn’t you imagine they would be a little more anxious to make you a fair offer to buy it?
Shortages start out regional… then spread. Its spreading… and yes, part of this is profit taking and speculators buying up whole stores, then reselling at flea markets, etc…
No .22lr or primers or powder available in my area after inquiring at several always reliable places… including my local guy, who says they’re on back order and he doesn’t have any idea when he’ll be restocked…
Luckily, I panicked early, as in, last year after the election… 😉
(Only wish I had panicked more, and bought MOAR!)
For what this is worth; everything that has been mention here to put back for barter or wealth is fine; one thing is never mention to put back. This maybe the most precious thing to have, GOOD CLEAN H2O WATER! So many people do not have or will have access to WATER when the SHTF in the cities and in a vast part of rural America, it will literally be worth its weight in GOLD. Put back as much as you can now, don’t wait.

I’m just real happy I got started on PMs twenty years ago. As for ammo, if you are willing to stand in line an hour or two early at the gun show, you will find ammo. Take enough bucks to get a case or two and you will be set.
There is a Tanner gun show this weekend in Denver. You can bet I will be standing in line, early.
AN EVENING WITH VANDANA SHIVA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flpFnfK_3Yo
Hello one and all! I have read all comments and appreciate all points of view. I will probably get flamed for this comment but here goes.
All this talk of an ammo shortage is true. Very tight in my area. My question is how much does one really need? Unless you are planning on going in business or do a lot of shooting, I would think a couple of bricks of 22 will be sufficient. As far as defensive 500 should do the trick. In a firefight doesn’t anyone seriously believe that you will be hit? To have thousands of rounds stored is probably going to make somebody very happy indeed after they take you out. If SHTF there won’t be any game living after 6 months. I guess I’m not too optimistic about survival in a societal collapse scenario. I will do my best and plant my garden and defend as best I can but I don’t think thousands of rounds and tons of PM’s is going to be necessary. Just kinda makes you a target.
I may be wrong but that is how I feel right now. God Bless, James
Cache the stuff. You never know, but you should.
STORING WATER IN 2 LITER POP BOTTLES:
STORING WATER IN RECYCLED BOTTLES
In general, there are three types of recycled bottles which will work for water storage: 2 liter pop bottles, plastic juice containers, and gallon bleach containers. These can be reincarnated as “water jugs.”
Unless punctured, these containers will hold water for years if necessary. Milk jugs are not recommended except for an extreme emergency, when nothing else is available, as they are porous and degrade in sunlight. Plastic juice containers are the best of the lot for storing water, as they have a handle on top and a mouth wide enough to permit refilling from a National Guard water tank truck. The small opening on soda bottles and lack of a handle are distinct disadvantages, but filling them does give people a sense of hope, some stored water, and that is important.
CLEANING JUICE BOTTLES
Rinse each 2 liter, half gallon or gallon juice container after use. Fill three quarters full of clean water, add a quarter teaspoon of dishwasher detergent, then shake vigorously and let soak. Shake several times more, then empty and rinse thoroughly with fresh water until completely rinsed and clean.
Refill with fresh tap water, adding 4 drops of chlorine bleach per gallon (2
drops of bleach for 2 liter or ½ gallon). Cap tightly. Store upright in a sturdy box. These water containers will now store for years.
USING WHITE ‘PUREX’ GALLON JUGS
These jugs are clean and sterilized, and even have a convenient carry handle.
Just fill them with water, let soak, empty and fill with fresh water. Enough
molecular chlorine remains in the walls of the jug to keep the water safe.
AERATING STORED WATER
No matter which method is used for storing water in plastic bottles, the water will taste flat after prolonged storage. To enliven the quality, oxygen must be restored to the water. This is easily accomplished by pouring the water from one sanitary container into another, back and forth several times. As the water passes through the air and splashes into the other pot, air is absorbed by the water and it again tastes fresh. At the same time, any lingering chlorine aroma is dissipated by aeration.
Keep the FAITH
Watchman
I use 2-liter bottles to store a little water. I keep them in the greenhouse as a heat sink in the winter. They sit on shelves around my plants. The sunlight keeps anything from growing in the water.
Actually, there is very little chance of a water shortage around here. You can’t drive a mile in any direction without having to go over a bridge or culvert. Rivers, creeks, and swamps are all over the place. There is a swamp at the back of my yard. I own to the centerline of it. There is a creek a few hundred yards down the road. I have the equipment to dig a well, another way to make money. It also rains a lot here.
I plan to get more storage for collected rainwater, mainly for watering the garden when it doesn’t rain for a few days. I haven’t had to water my garden yet this year.
Also my neighbor already has a hand water pump and an old-fashioned concrete cistern for collecting rainwater.
Where are the gang-bangers and criminals getting their ammo at?
Our homes when we are not there!
Give you 2 guesses, the first one don’t count. Same place they get their guns. Trekker Out.
Water Storage:
Ag Tanks = the large, usually plastic tanks that Ag chemicals AND water
are stored in. Come in assorted shapes and sizes. Some up to 2000 gallons.
(Best on a firm foundation ’cause that is roughly 16000 pounds of water = 8
Tons) Cost is reasonable. Better even for the larger tanks holding capacity.
Many are also listed for “potable water”.
That said – BUY NEW!!! Only those of much greater powers KNOW for sure
what has been stored in those tanks! If one even worries a tad about stuff
leaching from the plastic itself, don’t even dream of what else could leach
from a used tank!
Get one with a “human size” access top. Those things will occasionally
need cleaning out. Because of their resistance to chemicals, they can also
be partially buried which will help prevent the water from freezing in
moderate winter areas) and also from becoming bath water hot in the summer. (Boiled veggies before even leaving the garden).
“Stock Tanks” = open topped tanks for watering livestock. For those that
find used galvanized ones at farm sales – there ARE plastic/pvc liners made
for most of the standard sizes.
Water capacity: I know many of you only have small gardens, but still,
the amount of water needed for a food producing garden can be amazing.
Mulching for sure helps!! So does spot watering, but for arguments sake,
let’s look at a plain old open garden. Most plants need about 1″ or
equivalent of rain fall per week. Each square foot of garden will need 144
cubic inches of water (231 cu inches in a gallon) or roughly a little less
then 2/3 of a gallon every week. On a 4′ X 4′ mini-garden that is a mere 10
gallons. BUT for those of us trying to grow enough to feed a family it can
get to be quite a bit. I have a growing area of roughly 60′ X 80′ most of it
in beds, but if I was to overhead water the entire thing that would be
almost 3000 gallons of water!!! For ONE week!! That is why farmers pray for
rain during the growing seasons and gardeners opt for mulching and drip
irrigation.
Conversely a 20′ X 30 ‘ section of roof can deliver almost 375 gallons of
water in a 1″ down pour! Get the buckets and barrels out!

This was my thought too, at least partially… if the Fedgov is the only one who has ammo, what does that spell…
M O O N
that spells salvaging ammo and weapons off dead goons.
I have it on good authority, that many of the LEO community will NOT be on THEIR side. That local LEO’s and civilians being shorted ammo, is a deliberate ploy by the Black Caesar and his Czars. This spells a civil war, within the LEO community as the those departments that ‘cave’ to the Feds, will be provided ammo, and political officers to ensure loyalty.
This was speculation within the local sheriff dept. (My nephew is a deputy, and a christian. They are becoming… concerned.)
What f* movie are we living in?
The “Black Caesar and his Czars” Stalinist commies.
They’ll kill you, or try.
@ Piper Michael.
To all Law Enforcement that will be on our side, I will share my ammo.
Good evening, BI and Possee, I have the same feeling concerning events leading up to TRUE SHTF. I’m more on a razor’s edge now than right after Sandy Hook. As I said earlier, I’m reduced to target practice in my backyard with a .177 pellet pistol. At least it’s quieter than .22 and I can still find pellets and CO2 cartridges eveywhere for it. I’m saving my ammo for the war that’s definitely coming. When the balloon finally goes up, everyone’s lives will change forever. nothing will ever be the same in this country again. NOMI CATIMF Braveheart
Amen braveheart…
One reason I like my old pump up pellet gun… the more I pump it, the stronger it gets… no co2 to buy. It performs much like a 22 for plinking purposes.
The balloon will go up when the BRICS Development bank is initiated, this is the ‘Dollar kill switch’ that has been being built by China and its allies. We will become isolated on the world stage… if nobody accepts dollars anymore, then the military itself will have a hard time buying enough gas to get home. China knows how to play the game, they are 5 moves ahead of us. We on the other hand have already been taken over by marxist/fascists/globalists…
This thing with the Boston bomber being read his miranda rights, while cutting off the FBI, is an interesting development… the good guys fighting the … good guys?
The pro Islam forces in the top of the fedgov shut down the interrogation to prevent … what? TO protect who? Incompetence? I don’t think so. I think we’re being played, all the way.
Good luck brother… I think we’ll need it.
Braveheart, how hard would it be for a machinist to make a gang-mold for casting your .177 pellets? A pound of lead, some tin and wheel weights would go a long way.
Just wondering, commies everywhere.
* pls post dis’ sheeit … tank’ you . ;0P
MASSACHUSETTS MILITIA OPENS FIRE ON BOSTON ZOG DHS GESTAPO JACK-BOOTED wanna be ze’ nazi’s PIGS .
BOSTON – Police and National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed Sunday by elements of a para-military right wing extremist faction.
Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.
Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist militia faction has citizens whohave links to the radical right wing tax protest movement.
Gage blamed the militia for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices.
The governor who described the group’s organizers as “terrorists” , issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the governments efforts to secure law and order.
The law enforcement team augmented by elements of the National Guard, were sent to raid a militia arsenal after widespread refusal of right wing extremists to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.
This decision followed a meeting in early July between government and law enforcement which authorized the confiscation of the illegal arms, known as the weapons of choice among criminals and militias.
One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out “that none of these people would have been killed had right wing extremist obeyed the law and turned over the weapons voluntarily” .
Police and government forces initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition.
However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily armed militia extremist who had been tipped off regarding the government’s plans.
During a tense stand-off in Lexington ‘s town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes.
The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right wing extremist.
Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange.
Ironically, the local citizens blamed the government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths.
Before order could be restored, heavily armed militia groups from surrounding areas had descended upon the police and guard units.
Colonel Smith finding his forces over matched by militia mobs, ordered a retreat.
Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order.
The governor has also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government.
Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as “ringleaders” of the extremist militia faction remain at large.

Two to the chest and one to the apricot, our new cry for Freedom.
I read recently (can’t remember where) that the body armor used by the bad guys will stop almost anything fired at it. According to the poster, shots to the hips will put the target down so a more carefully aimed second shot can be sent to the head. His suggestion? “Hips and heads!”
Benanke prints money and Big Sis uses it to clean out the ammo stores.
@ Everybody. Okay all of this is leading up to loss of freedoms, the writing is on the wall. So I came up with an anagram to describe what these anti-firearms and anti-freedom piles of manure that want trash and destroy the real meaning of the Constitutution and our liberties. And everyone should think of this anagram when they see these anti-self defense radicals trying to poison America.
COFFIN. This stands for: Crumbling Of Future Freedoms Is Nationwide. You can also use Collapse instead of crumbling. Yes when you see one of these anti-self defense anti-freedom retards trying to take away your rights as an America think of the anagram C.O.F.F.I.N., because this is exactly where these traitors want those put that still cherish freedom, and to permanently bury the Constitution.
Be informed,
Bravo. Couldn’t have phrased it any better!

I have a loaded auto in almost every room of the house, some places two. My mother-in-law said, “what in hell are you afraid of?” I replied “not a darn thing.”
Folks,
It is Friday April 26TH at 4:42 AM. I am looking at Gunbrokers’ auction listings for .223 Remington ammunition. I see 964 listing for .223 Rem ammo. 20 full pages of ammo from 100 rounds to 2500 rounds!
Shortage?
I am proclaiming there is no ammo shortage. Ammo factories are working 3 shifts a day in most cases and on the weekends trying to meet demand.
This is ammo that should be on the shelves in your local gun shop. However it is somehow making its’ way from the factory onto the auction sites with very little if any going to gun shops.
I’m all in favor of free enterprise, but when we’re facing clear and present (foreign and domestic) threats to the Constitution, particularly the Second Amendment, it does not sit well with me that there are individuals out there exploiting the current crisis for personal financial gain.
The only way the auction extortions will cease is if supply and/or demand dry up. Reloading would go along way to alleviate this shortage. Save your brass for reloading folks.
YH, I agree. There is no shortage. The local shops don’t have the cash flow to order a ton of stuff and wait 3 months for it to show up. Walmart stocks are being nipped up at 7:00AM every morning by a dozen show and net dealers. It’s readily available if you want to pay a premium price.
When sales of overpriced ammo and components dry up, the stores will replenish and prices will return to somewhat normal.
‘Hoarding’ is not an issue. There are not enough people putting away a case or two of ammo to empty the shelves. The scalpers are the ones doing the damage.
My local gun shops are out of brass and bullets, low on primers and powder. So last week I bought about 5,000 pieces of brass and bullets on the net, at decent prices, enough to hold me over for a few months. My SHTF stash is not being touched, that would be stupid.
A year ago, I bought one of those 2500-round lots of .223, a big crate of South African surplus. My winning bid was $563.56, and shipping made it nearly $640 total. Fired off 100 rounds, not a misfire or failure to feed, good quality stuff from 1980’s.
Bought it cheap, stacked it deep. Now I’m not buying ammo, just reloading components. And some gun parts and such.
It’s gotten so bad finding ammo, I had my hubby lock all his hunting ammo at his hunting cabin up in a safe…I fear thugs will start to view remote seasonal hunting cabins as targets now.
Rachel, you’re right. It’s pretty bad out there. There should be a law against the government having monopoly control over the national ammunition supply. After all these are mostly civilian ammunition plants, except for Lake City!
The government had three ammunition plants of its own until Clinton closed two of them. Now, to my knowledge, only the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri is still open. Civilians need a factory(ies) of our own that government cannot simply walk up and step in front of the checkout line.
King George proscribed powder manufactories, armories, founderies, cannon making, etc., during pre-revoluntionary days; sort of like now, but instead of tories we now have a nation of commies.
CH,
You said that right!
I am not being sarcastic. Just an observation about PM’s from a guy who has tried, having success and failure at investing. If a true collapse were to happen, why would I trade anything I need to substain life, food, medicine, guns, etc for something that shines? During a crash the PM’s would initially be exchanged and as people got hungry, no one would make the trade for food. If you want to play silver as a investment, remind yourself that commodities are volitile which leads to higher short selling in an attempt to play the spread. A wild ride indeed but with greater risk comes greater profit. The only caveat that would be specific to the shtf community is that in the end, silver will be dollar based and if the dollar is at zero, silver will not be far behind. Would anyone here make a trade for basic life needs for silver? I post mainly on weekends due to my schedule. I have been upfront about the fact I do not share a lot of your beliefs and I am not here to make you angry. I am willing to listen and if you differ with my ideas on silver please explain why.
CON T,
The idea of ‘money’ has been around thousands of years… the idea of money has been stolen by bankers, who, when the dollar crashes are going to ‘reset’ the system into some new global credit scheme. This is already functioning and ready to go.
This, if you have your head screwed on straight, will be the issue, legal tender will turn into a legal straightjacket. You will not be able to ‘buy or sell’ when this reset occurs, your bank accounts will be ‘converted’ and you will have to take a biometric id to regain access.
Now, if you are a producer you are also a consumer… the black market economy that results from this scam will spread, and ‘money’ will be needed. The currency of ‘value’ will be gold, silver, lead, copper, food, labor, etc. But, pure value is in the mind and hand, not a damn computer.
You may accept this chip if you wish, but, you will cause your soul to be bound to the dark energy of the world, you will have to sign over your loyalty to the new government to regain access to your bank account. You will not be able to work, and ‘hoarding’ will become a crime with personal inventories required to be put up online. WHAT? The biometric system is not just money, but absolute control over everything. They will attempt to eliminate the black market as well, because it has always been a sore point with FedCorp. This is also to prevent those nasty Christians from trading, bartering, or otherwise gaining access to second hand goods.
This will begin after the collapse of the dollar, which was prophesied 2000 years ago. Believe, don’t believe, your choice. Trends speak to the truth of the matter. Something wicked this way comes, when the black horse finishes its ride, it will be “… a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny, and spare ye not the oil and the wine…” This, is a prediction of the collapse of money, the elimination of the middle class, and a new class of Massa to ride herd.
This is happening in front of our eyes, and many don’t see it. Your post is entirely based in the Normalcy bias as others above. Yes, it has been predicted for years that this would happen, but, it HAS to happen. History shows that fiat money ALWAYS FAILS due to immoral printing(What are WE now doing?). It doesn’t matter what you think, or I think, or what any American thinks, as we have lost control of the geopolitical agenda due to our immoral behavior… China sets the new agenda, and that agenda will not be fiat money, but gold certificates drawn from the new BRICS Development bank… aka; The Dollar kill switch that will bypass the SWIFT system. When the switch is thrown, our world changes over night. Our world has never been about economics, its always, always about Machiavelli… and who gets to be Big Dog.
WHEN the switch is thrown, all kinds of nasties will come out of the shadows. Including (IMO), the Saudis, who have already signed a treaty with China and Russia, will, declare the dollar as money ‘no good’ for buying oil… It is also my speculation( If I was an enemy, I would…)that the Saudi’s will give The West two options… buy our oil for gold or… Nationally forced conversion to Islam. This will give the PTB their reason du jour, to void the Constitution for the ‘survival of America’.
And, Obama, will lap it up like a dog in heat. (If he isn’t already part of it.)
Speculation? Hmmm…. I call it contingency planning after spiritual inkling.
Southern Poetry, I have to ask, whose fantasy world are you from? At the very least, civil unrest or worse is coming not only to Memphis but to the entire country. Also, I don’t have to see a shrink or get on any meds if I don’t want to. How did you know about Lakeside? That tells me you’re somewhere in this area. Psychiatry is something totally bogus, anyway. So, why don’t you just go f#$% yourself and go to an MSM site. We don’t need you stinking up our intelligent community. braveheart
Howdy, PM, just caught your post. i had to put the latest troll in his place. never tried an air rifle before so I think I’ll look at some this weekend. got toget some more supplies anyway. Braveheart
On 15 January I got “.45 ACP +P Remington Golden Saber JHP 185 Grain 25 Round Box” from CTD for $16.79 per box. Just now I bought “S&B 45ACP 230GR FMJ 50RD BOX” from http://www.westforkarmory.net for $29.99 per box. They’re not the same, and I give those specs just for a rough comparison, but the point is that .45 hasn’t gone up as much per round as 5.56 or .22 LR (generally). However, the selection of brands and types of .45 has greatly decreased, just like everything else.
Mark,
It’s impossible to say how much of what type of ammo is being produced at any moment. Ammo plants make ammo in “runs”, but even ammo plants are reporting difficulty in obtaining the raw materials to make the brass cases, copper jacketed bullets, even powder and especially primers. I don’t know what percentage of these components are imported. King Obama seems highly motivated to block firearms, parts, and ammo components from entering the country. We just have to keep a sharp eye out, have a wad of cash on the ready to buy when the opportunity presents itself.
There are reports that Japanese are paying $500 over spot for immediate physical delivery of 1 oz gold Eagles. There are degrees of panic. With first quarter figures now in, Zerohedge figures the debt to GDP ratio for the US is now 105%. Feeling panicky yet? When paper soon loses the control of the price of PM’s I wonder what the premiums will be when physical PM’s price is rising so fast no one will be selling. Hope you got while the gettin was good because it isn’t now. Never will be again. Putting money down now for future delivery of physical assumes way too much. A bird in the hand is worth how many in the bush? The answer is coming soon.
More doom and gloom, and just like sheeple you morons are swallowing it hook, line and sinker. I am having no problem finding ammo n my area. The price is a little higher than before you idiots started this stupid, fear-mongered, irrational panic buying spree. When has one, just one, of your hysterical predictions come true? I dare say never. What you sheeple do not realize is sites like this one exist for two purposes. One, to strengthen your brain washing so you will blindly follow the crap this site puts out and to manipulate you into a political agenda that if followed, will result in you losing your freedom. The second objective is to separate you lemmings from your money. Which objective is the primary objective? The latter. If the former is also obtained, then so much the better for the fascist who runs this site. But, either way, he will be laughing his ass of at you all the way to the bank.
So whats the reason for your ammo purchases?
That is why you do not put any physical gold or silver in the banks I have never trusted banks and never will all my wealth is hidden though I do have some in PayPal, online savings, and a checking account at a physical bank but 90% of my wealth is not in banks at all it is in places I could easily get to and there is no one there telling me I am not allowed to have my own gold/silver or cash…
